Job Description

The Vice President of Corporate Communications will be responsible for leading the company's efforts across Public Relations, Social Media and Employee Communications and will be relied upon to develop and execute strategic communications plans that advance business objectives and influence public opinion, as well as enhance corporate recognition and reputation in support of building our brand.

Key responsibilities of the VP, Communications will include:

Developing and leading a communications strategy that advances and amplifies the Guardant Health mission, with an emphasis on corporate, investor, business and financial communications.

Establishing collaborative relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders – including researchers, regulatory decision makers, hospital systems, insurance companies and consumers - to promote and protect the business, amplify its thought leadership and elevate the field.

Serving as a trusted advisor to the Co-CEOs, leadership team and scientific research teams on all aspects of reputation, brand and research, as well as on strategic decisions that will continue to shape the future of the organization.

Partnering with Investor Relations to develop the narrative and communications around earnings, investor days, analyst conferences and other financial endeavors.

Developing and executing external communications plans, including earned broadcast and print media, speaking engagements, and paid, owned and earned social media, which showcase the company’s people, properties, activities and aspirations.

Aligning on communications KPIs that are meaningful to Guardant Health and monitoring the media landscape, leveraging data and reaching across departments to develop compelling insights on company and industry breakthroughs, issues and associated news.

Lead the development and distribution of written and oral communications.

Become a subject matter expert and passionate storyteller about the mission of Guardant Health.

Developing and nurturing relationships with key journalists, influencers and other thought leaders.

Field media inquiries, vetting across organization and defining path forward.

Drive awareness of media success/coverage internally among leaders and employees.

Preparing senior executives for media interviews and other external engagements.

Partnering closely with the Marketing organization to support key campaigns.

Being prepared to manage high-profile issues and/or crisis situations in an agile manner, anticipating issues and, when needed, mobilizing the right resources and using the right channels to deliver accurate and rapid responses.

Managing and guiding the activities of outside agency partners.

Ensuring that all company communications, written, visual, digital and verbal, are clear, accurate and have an inherent brand sensibility.

Operating as Leadership’s “peripheral vision,” closely analyzing societal, cultural, political and business trends and applying them to the organization’s strategy.

Collaborate with Finance, Marketing, Medical Affairs, Clinical Development and Regulatory

Work within Public Affairs and Marketing to support ongoing PR campaigns

Qualifications:Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be a strategic, creative and nimble leader who has held a senior communications role within a high-profile, multi-stakeholder public company. This entrepreneurial leader thrives in a high-growth, complex environment and enjoys being on site with constituents, building trust and consensus with a collaborative, diplomatic approach. Keen brand and marketing sensibilities are also key with an appreciation for different -sometimes competing – perspectives on a creative approach.

Guardant Health also seeks the following credentials and attributes:

Proven leadership in corporate communications with executive presence and a sense of diplomacy to work across diverse stakeholder groups including employees, senior-level management, policy officials, advocates, academics, researchers and the media.

A solid understanding of business along with experience working with investor relations to develop a compelling corporate narrative for investors, analysts and top-tier financial media.

Experience at a NYSE or NASDAQ listed company.

A storyteller by nature, with strong writing, presentation and oral communication skills and strong business acumen to create messaging that drives awareness and engagement.

Entrepreneurial spirit and resourcefulness combined with a focus on tangible outcomes that advance the business.

Well-developed media relationships plus the skills and instincts to develop new relationships in line with business needs.

Extensive experience with social media and a keen understanding of the influencer environment with the judgment and creativity to leverage them in the best interest of the company, its people, products and industry.

Track record with consumer audiences and in crafting compelling consumer communications.

Able to remain calm under pressure and keep others focused during periods of intensity.

Demonstrates courage of conviction as well as high emotional intelligence.

Maintains the highest standards of quality and accountability.

Has the credibility and confidence to manage expectations with senior leadership and prepare them on issues and opportunities. Knows how to say: “Here is what is happening, what it means to us and how we

should handle it.”

Experience in PR agency management and selection.

Pharma/biopharma or Diagnostic communications experience a plus.

Ability to travel up to 25%.

Education: Minimum of a Bachelors’ Degree and 12-15+ years of related experience leading external communications for big B to B or B to C brands and/or in the technology sector.

Additional Information

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $228,000 to $343,000 USD. The range does not include benefits and if applicable, bonus, commission, or equity.

The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries across all US locations for the posted role, with the exception of any locations specifically referenced below (if any).

Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including, but not limited to, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. If you are selected to move forward, the recruiting team will provide details specific to the factors above.

Employee may be required to lift routine office supplies and use office equipment. Majority of the work is performed in a desk/office environment; however, there may be exposure to high noise levels, fumes, and biohazard material in the laboratory environment. Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
