Position Summary

If so, the Office of the Senior Vice President for Student Life & Engagement has an exciting opportunity for you! Join us in fostering connections with Spartan families and beyond while monitoring and listening to social media conversations. This position works three (3) days on campus, two (2) days remote. Responsibilities include: provides day-to-day management and support for Spartan Family Connections Facebook Page and Michigan State Spartan Parents Group; creates social media plans and strategies for SLE units, recommending adjustments to improve effectiveness based on data and insights; plans, coordinates, aggregates, and/or produces and posts content for social communications, ensuring steps are taken to enhance accessibility; establishes monitoring and measurement protocols to gauge social media communication effectiveness; tracks and reports on social media results; assists with management of division-level social media accounts, including Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, and YouTube, to meet strategic communications goals; keeps a pulse on the ever-changing social media landscape, industry news and topic and content trends; identifies and shares emerging trends, topics, and content ideas; identifies opportunities to leverage social media listening insights to build trust, foster engagement, and enhance overall communication strategies; monitors and analyzes social media platforms to gather real-time feedback and sentiment, informing proactive communication approaches; assists in creating, monitoring, and executing social media content that aligns with audience interests and current trends; collaborates with social media teams to forecast, monitor, and track emerging conversations, trending topics, and ongoing discussions relevant to the MSU community; assists in prioritizing and managing multiple projects, balancing deadlines and resources to meet organizational goals; supports the coordination and execution of creative and communication projects, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and timely delivery; collaborates with cross-functional teams to manage the development of content, design, and communication materials from concept through to completion; provides guidance and feedback on deliverables, ensuring consistency in messaging, branding, and overall quality across all platforms.

All positions in SLE are designated as critical status. In the event of a university closure, modification, or suspension of operations due to snow or other emergency condition, persons in this position are expected to make all reasonable attempts to report to work as scheduled for the duration of the closure/suspension. If a person has an approved remote work agreement to work a portion of their normally scheduled work hours remotely, they may be called upon to work on-site to serve the MSU community.

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Journalism, Telecommunications, or Public Relations; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in public and media relations, composing, editing and publication production, news, broadcasting, and print media, and/or marketing, advertising, and creative services; graphic design; word processing; desktop publishing; web design; presentation; spreadsheet and/or database software; public presentation; or radio production; or computer programming/technology; experience managing content for social media channels; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
