Job DescriptionInsight Editions is seeking an associate production editor who will be responsible for the production process of 25–35 active titles, in collaboration with the managing editorial and acquisitions teams. If you have an eagle-eye attention to detail, a zeal for style guides, a calm demeanor under pressure, and an insatiable love of books, this job is for you.The ideal candidate will have a minimum of two years experience working on highly designed, full-color lifestyle books and products, and have a passion for the many pop-culture fandoms we have the pleasure of working on each day. This position will report up to a senior managing editor, and is a great opportunity for current assistant production editors to take their next career step.
Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in English or related field2 years in production (or managing) editorial at a Trade publishing houseExcellent copyediting, proofreading, and project management skillsStrong knowledge, and love of, the Chicago Manual of Style and Merriam WebsterAbility to prioritize across multiple projects and meet tight deadlinesHighly motivated, productive, and detail-oriented with strong organizational skillsExperience working on highly designed, full-color lifestyle books and diverse formats, including stationery, book-plus, pop ups, and oracle decks, a plusExperience working quickly and diplomatically with authors to resolve queries, a plus
Key duties and responsibilities:Manage a list of 25–35 active titles at a time, in support of acquisitions editorial and managing editorialAttend divisional WIP meetings, speaking to your projects’ statusManage the communication and work of freelancers for copyediting, proofreading, indexing, and occasionally packagersStyle manuscripts and route transmittals to the design department for layoutCollate edits for design and check implementationProofread jacket and case copy, and tipsheet copy, as neededRun final reviews on cover and layout files before prepress and at ozalidsReview ebooks prior to publicationProcess and approve freelancer invoicesAssist managing editorial department with evaluating new freelancers and packagersMaintain and update style guides for our most popular formats and licenses
