The Manager

- Marketing and Communications will be responsible for leading and managing the process that creates the United Way of East Central Iowa’s (UWECI) external and internal communication and marketing strategies.

This position will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer and lead a team of marketing professionals charged with developing a variety of marketing and communication deliverables.

This position will also serve as the primary liaison with media for United Way of East Central Iowa. Leads and provides expertise in marketing strategy for writing, editing, video, and copywriting with an emphasis on digital marketing.

Marketing & Communications:

Provide vision and leadership to deliver impactful stakeholder and employee communications as part of a comprehensive communications plan that facilitates moving potential donors from being unaware of United Way, to donors who take ownership in our work

Project-manage the process that creates marketing and communication deliverables from conception of the strategy to delivering the end product (deliverable) on time

Consult with department heads and CEO for input on the communication of key messages and pursue innovation in communicating these messages

Create strong, clear, concise written content that contains a consistent message across a variety of channels such as social media, letters, commercials and print materials with a focus on a digital presence

Ensure year-round UWECI presence in the community through various communication channels and be able to demonstrate measurable impact from these efforts

Communicate with and direct the priorities for graphic design contractor/liaison

Public Relations:

Serve as primary media contact

Maintain proactive and productive relationships with media and key stakeholders to ensure UWECI’s message is communicated.

Coordinate with the CEO, or appropriate management staff key messages for publication through the media

Coordinate all crisis communication and maintain a crisis communication plan

Act as organizational spokesperson when needed

Inform CEO of all public relations issues, positive or negative, and develop a response plan

Management:

Supervise and develop the Marketing and Communications team

Provide support and expertise to all departments and the UWECI Management Team.

Develop and manage the marketing and communications budget, including organizational printing budget

Other Duties:

Assist with implementing the UWECI strategic plan

Implement current strategic goals for Marketing and Communications department and play a lead role in other duties as assigned

Collaborate and build relationships with internal volunteers striving toward mission focused and impactful work and results

Job Skills & Attributes:

Five years significant and demonstrated experience in marketing content development and communications 

Highly developed skills both electronically and in written form for donor audiences

Experience with creating and implementing a digital marketing strategy to increase online presence

Successful team management experience

Project management skills with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects for on-time completion

Public and media relations knowledge.

Ability to manage marketing and communications’ operations and finances.

Cultural Competency - Ability to understand, communicate with, and effectively interact with people across cultures
