For more information about KFI Engineers and our culture, please visit www.kfi-eng.com.POSITION OVERVIEW & RESPONSIBILITIESThe Senior Fire Protection Designer will report to the Senior Fire Protection Project Manager and will be responsible for managing other fire protection designers. The role includes providing design of fire protection systems, performing hydraulic calculations, and producing construction documents. This individual will also understand the building/fire codes and standards to produce specifications and assist in studies on a variety of fire protection related applications.Specific responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:Supervise and assist other fire protection designers.Prepare fire protection systems layout and detailed drawings.Assist in the preparation of contract specifications.Perform accurate design calculations including hydraulic calculations.Coordinate work with both internal and external stakeholders.Review fire protection contractor shop drawings.Perform field surveys and construction administration duties.Provide technical information and assistance to project engineer and/or project manager.Make recommendations regarding the feasibility of systems or equipment.Coordinate system design with other disciplines, consultants, and utilities.Perform site surveys and observations.Perform hydrant flow tests.Respond to RFIs with the approval of the Project Manager.Additional duties as required.QUALIFICATIONSRequired:NICET Certified Level III in Water-Based Systems Layout.Minimum of five years of design experience.Highly motivated with a professional demeanor.Team-oriented with a strong work ethic.Proficient data entry skills.Ability to prioritize multiple tasks.Excellent written and oral communication skills.Strong attention to detail.Competency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook.Basic understanding of Architectural, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, and Structural Engineering practices.Experience with Revit or HydraCAD for Revit.Experience in a leadership or supervisory role.Travel: May include up to 10% domestic travel.Preferred:Associate degree in Drafting and Design.NICET Certified Level IV in Water-Based Systems Layout.NICET Certified in Fire Alarm Systems and/or Special Hazards Suppression Systems.Experience with SpecLink, HydraCAD/HydraCALC, and AutoSPRINK.Working Conditions:Some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of construction sites.CORE BEHAVIORSAccountable:Demonstrates persistence in achieving goals.Acts with a sense of urgency.Takes responsibility for own actions.Business Focus:Demonstrates agility and adapts well to changes.Works well under pressure.Meets commitments to customers.Project Execution:Plans projects well, managing last-minute rushes and disruptions.Balances speed and quality.Looks for improvement in delivery, tools, and processes.Demonstrates Respect for Others:Keeps others informed.Exhibits objectivity and openness to others' views.Adapts communication style based on audience.Team Player:Balances team and individual responsibilities.Shares expertise with others.Inspires respect and trust.KFI Engineers is an equal opportunity employer, and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or status as a protected veteran.
