Job Description

Smith & Carson, an Atlanta-based industry leader in performing complex litigation, jury, corporate due diligence, and background investigations, is looking for an experienced investigative reporter and QA editor to join our team. Qualified candidate will have a minimum of two years of experience as a writer in a professional field (journalism, law, corporate communications, etc.), or at least two years of experience with legal document review along with proven writing skills. This position will be primarily responsible for reviewing the results of background investigations and summarizing the results into reports for our clients. The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of civil and criminal processes, experience with reviewing and analyzing complex legal documents, and the ability to write clear, concise reports under tight deadlines. Ideal candidates may include, but are not limited to: a journalist with experience covering legal issues, an attorney or other legal professional with a background in document review, a corporate communications professional, or a technical writer with experience in government and/or law. You will be joining a sophisticated team of professionals who will work with you as you learn and grow with the business.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that would provide the required abilitiesA minimum of two years of experience in legal document review or at least two years of experience in a professional writing roleThorough understanding of legal and other types of public records, including law enforcement reports, civil and criminal court records, business records, and social mediaInquisitive and detail-oriented, with strong analytical, note-taking, and summarization skills; ability to follow company protocols and formatsAbility to quickly read, accurately analyze, and concisely summarize large amounts of complex material into reports that require minimal editingAn effective communicator with people at all levels, including colleagues, attorneys, and court/agency personnelEffectively manage multiple projects and changing priorities while maintaining professionalismSelf-motivated with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision and to self-regulate production and schedule to ensure completion of projects by required deadlinesHighly discreet and committed to protecting sensitive and confidential information regarding clients and projectsStrong internet research and computer application skillsCommitment to offer assistance to colleagues whenever possible and to work late nights and weekends as needed on time-sensitive projects
