The CBS News Washington Bureau is seeking a creative and enthusiastic producer with strong national security and foreign affairs expertise and editorial judgment, field production experience, and excellent broadcast script writing skills to collaborate with Washington, DC based correspondents!

Are you ready to apply Make sure you understand all the responsibilities and tasks associated with this role before proceeding.This producer will pitch and develop National security news and feature stories for day of air and future planning for all CBS News platforms. They will be responsible for story production from concept to broadcast, while collaborating with the Executive and Senior Producers for the broadcast platforms including streaming and dot com. Candidates must have the ability to make quick and sensible decisions, crash stories under tight deadlines, and work with the editor and correspondent to produce visually compelling segments. It is essential that this producer can take initiative by making calls and coming up with creative angles and bookings for a fast-paced news cycle, as well as supplement reporting. Candidates should be able to provide comprehensive research under deadline. Candidates must also be adaptable with changing schedules to work around breaking news.Skills/experience

Experience in a broadcast news environment.Firm command of the US national security apparatus and agencies as well as foreign embassies in the U.S. This is not a foreign correspondent field producer role. This is a US based role focusing on US foreign policy and national security decision making that includes tracking US allies and adversaries.Proficiency in the broadcast newsgathering process with strong field experience is preferred. Ability to collaborate with a correspondent is required as is the ability to write for the visual medium of broadcast by selecting strong pictures.Work closely with producers, correspondents, assignment desk and crews for news gathering in Washington and overseas.Attend press conferences, stakeouts, and events. Set up interviews with officials for all platforms of CBS News.Keep a futures calendar for upcoming foreign affairs/national security events. Collaborate across the beat by liaising with Pentagon, Intelligence, State Department and WH teams on relevant subject matter.Gather video and sound bites for use across all platforms. When necessary, researching archival video material for use in news stories.Produce LIVE Shots with Correspondents for all broadcasts.Occasional travel required, possibly on short notice and could include overnight and/or foreign trips.Duties may require some early mornings, late night and occasional weekends depending on the breaking news schedule.Must be a phenomenal teammate with a positive outlook. Thrives in fast paced and time-critical situations.Must have solid news judgment and experience chasing breaking news.Must be able to balance and prioritize multiple stories with different deadlines: short, medium, and long-term.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound editorial decisions.Must have a valid driver's license with unrestricted ability to drive a car.Must have a U.S. passport with unrestricted ability to travel domestically and internationally.5+ years of editorial experience working in production is preferred.ADDITIONAL INFORMATIONHiring Salary Range: $100,000.00 - 150,000.00.The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
