It is fundamental that Lilly provides to regulators, the scientific community, health care professionals, payers, and patients data that is balanced, objective, and accurate in a consistent and well-timed fashion.Within Lilly Research Laboratories (LRL), the Global Scientific Communications Organization (GSC) coordinates the creation of this information across the entire drug development lifecycle. To ensure future success, we are seeking an Associate Vice President (AVP) - Global Scientific Communications to lead the organization and develop a coordinated strategy for communicating data and information in a timely and consistent manner to meet the needs of a rapidly growing savvy global customer base. This role requires influencing and driving relevant changes in the external environment, anticipating trends and standards of practice. This position will be the central point of accountability for decision and policymaking on issues that have global implications.Responsibilities of this role may include:Develop and lead global scientific communication function and strategy to elevate the science, the scientific level, and the use of technology for communicating Lilly’s science and information, ensuring its well-timed and consistent delivery that answers and anticipates customer questions across a diverse and demanding global environment.Drive scientific communications capabilities and operational excellence globally by influencing the development of industry standards and policies through collaborations with external organizations, professional societies, regulators, vendors, editorial boards, journals, etc. This will also require focused application of business principles to ensure that both efficiency and effectiveness are attained via a robust, diverse sourcing and recruiting strategy.Responsible for driving and influencing strategic global alignment across business units, functions, and geographies to ensure local and specific initiatives can be implemented quickly in support of the broader strategy. This also involves handling compliance and risk across the product development lifecycle and globally.Provide strong leadership to further the expansion of GSC while retaining and fostering a highly collaborative environment. You will interact with key decision-makers, senior leadership, and regional heads to remove obstacles and influence the growth of the capability locally, regionally, and corporately.Influence external societies (CSE, DIA, ISMPP, etc.), journal editors, editorial boards, universities, service and technology providers to drive policies and standards that support a position of integrity and excellence from the viewpoint of our customers.Minimum Qualifications:Post-graduate degree (e.g., MS, PhD, PharmD) preferably in a health-related or scientific field with a minimum of 8 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, including at least 3 years in scientific communications. Will consider Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 10 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, including at least 3 years in scientific communications.Proven track record in leading a large global organization, development of technical personnel, and building a new business in a highly matrixed organization.General medical or scientific background with strong communication skills and understanding of regulatory requirements, commercialization concepts, and evolving technologies.Solid knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry, “political” environment, global marketplace, and scientific communities.Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing strategy, driving organizational change, and working across global components.Solid understanding of tools and new technologies and their applications.Additional Information:Some travel may be required.Location: Indianapolis, IN
