Director of Public Services, LibrariesPosition Summary:

The Director of Public Services is responsible for overseeing public and user-centric services operations for system-wide public services and directly for Mabee Library. This position serves as assistant to the Dean of Libraries when the dean is absent. This position is a part of the library leadership team and contributes to the strategic development of programs, services, and collections of the libraries and represents the libraries on campus committees in support of student success and the academic mission. Supervisory responsibilities include reference and research consultation services, promotions and marketing activities, resource sharing services, functions of public service staff, and stacks maintenance. The Director of Public Services reports to the Dean of Libraries.Job Duties:

Making sure you fit the guidelines as an applicant for this role is essential, please read the below carefully.UIW Libraries LeadershipAssists the Dean of Libraries in the planning and implementation of UIW Libraries’ vision, strategic objectives, and mission.Leads strategic planning for the libraries’ public services and programs.Promotes the libraries’ co-curricular role in teaching, learning, and scholarship and works with the Library Leadership Team in developing robust co-curricular programming.Stays abreast of trends in academic librarianship and in services in support of teaching, learning, and scholarship in higher education.Works with the Dean of Libraries in the development of innovation in programming, public services, space-as-a-service, and staff and budget development.Works with the leadership team in the identification and implementation of endowment and grant-funded projects.Provides the Dean with data related to public services for various reports and works with Libraries’ leadership team to develop enhancements to evaluative processes.Performs other duties as assigned.Public Services Manager

Establishes policies and procedures for on-campus and distance programs.Collaborates with the Dean and the public services team to set targets for the enhancement of services.Assesses the impact of services and identifies areas for improvement.Serves as the arbiter for user grievances when necessary.Supervisor

Directly supervises all public services staff and liaison librarians in Mabee Library and health sciences librarians in SoRS and FSoP.Oversees the development of staff and collaborates with librarians to identify areas for professional development.Develops guidelines, trainings, and policies that result in a productive and impactful work environment that is oriented to serving users with respect, professionalism, and inclusivity.Ensures that all appropriate federal and state laws and guidelines regarding FERPA and ADA are implemented in the libraries’ public services.Fosters good working relationships among colleagues and direct reports.Outreach and Professional Development

Establishes protocols for outreach and practices for liaisons.Serves as liaison librarian in assigned programs.Develops narrative and evidence for institutional effectiveness and accreditation standards as directed by the Dean.Serves on university committees, contributes to the profession by participating in local, regional, and national organizations.Actively participates in professional development related to areas of responsibility and higher education.Serves as a liaison to assigned discipline areas and provides reference and research support.Knowledge Skills and Abilities:Strong knowledge of academic library public and users services;Strong knowledge of information and other meta-literacy instruction that is referenced to national competencies defined by the ACRL;Strong knowledge of student reference and consultation, scholar reference and consultation, and graduate level research services;Strong leadership in mentoring staff and personnel management;Strong knowledge of library system platforms including LibWizard, Library Services Platforms Public Services modules;Proficiency in computer and online applications, including online teleconferencing applications, learning management systems, LibWizard suite, Library Services Platforms, research databases and other information sources;High-customer service orientation;High problem-solving, and analytical and organizational skills;Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills;Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures;Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.Required Education:

MLS / MLIS from an ALA-accredited program.Required Work Experience:Three (3) years of experience as a program coordinator, supervisor, administrator of related areas in academic libraries.Five (5) years of experience as a professional / faculty librarian in academic libraries.Five (5) years of experience as an information literacy / instruction librarian.Preferred Qualifications:Five (5) years of supervisory experience in public and reference / instruction in academic libraries.Two (2) or more years of experience as a health sciences/health professions liaison in academic or healthcare setting.Working knowledge of Alma and discovery tools, such as PRIMO, etc…Work Hours:

Typical: Tuesday through Saturday 9am to 6pm with flexibility to accommodate occasional weekend and evening hours as needed.Physical Demands:Ability to reach overhead, bend, squat, and climb to retrieve library materials.Ability to occasionally push/pull library carts holding up to 60 lbs.Ability to regularly move about library locations.Ability to move about campus to attend meetings, both on and off main campus.Posting Details:Posting Number:
