Job Title: Social Media & Community Management InternLocation: Los Angeles, CA (Remote options available for students currently residing in or planning to be based in Los Angeles, Chicago, Denver, or NYC upon graduation) This is a remote internship with a strong opportunity to be considered for a full-time position upon the successful completion of the internship. The ideal candidate is someone who seeks the flexibility and independence of a remote work environment. Founded by an alum of ESPN’s statistics and analysis department and two advertising agencies, Gentoo provides clients with data and insights-based strategies, creative, and optimizations.Job Summary: The Social Media & Community Management Intern will assist in managing and engaging with online communities across various social media platforms on behalf of our spirit brand clients. This role provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in community management, social media management, influencer management, content ideation, and development. The ideal candidate will be creative, proactive, possess excellent written communication skills, and be eager to learn about social media trends and strategies. This internship is intended to run from early - mid October 2024 through the end of the year, with the possibility of extension for the spring semester. Gentoo Marketing is highly invested in making this an excellent learning opportunity with meaningful guided client work with the hope of considering the intern for a full-time position upon graduation (pending business needs and intern's performance).Note: Gentoo’s client roster includes brands in the spirits industry, so the successful candidate must be 21 years of age or older by the intended start date of 10/1/2024 - 10/15/2024.Key Responsibilities: Assist in managing and monitoring client social media accounts (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok) to increase engagement and build community. Respond to comments, messages, and inquiries in a timely and professional manner under the guidance of the Social Media Manager. Participate in the development and implementation of social media strategies to increase followers, enhance brand awareness, and drive website traffic. Help analyze social media metrics and prepare reports on campaign performance, community growth, and engagement levels. Work closely with the marketing team to ensure social media efforts align with overall marketing strategies. Participate in content ideation sessions, bringing new ideas for campaigns, posts, and brand collaborations. Assist Influencer Manager in identifying and engaging with brand advocates and influencers to foster community growth. Schedule engaging content (posts, images, videos) for Agency clients. Support the Agency team with planning and execution of online events and campaigns. Stay informed about social media trends, tools, and best practices.Qualifications: Interest in social media management and community building. Strong knowledge of social media platforms. Creative thinking and ability to generate engaging content. Ability to work independently and manage time effectively. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including but not limited to: Expertise in English grammar (copywriting and editing). Ability to adhere to brand style guides and write clear, Tone-of-Voice appropriate copy. Past social media experience (internship or personal profile that demonstrates a talent for content creation and community development) is a plus, but not required. Familiarity with social media scheduling tools (e.g., Hootsuite, Sprout Social, Buffer) is a plus, but not required. Experience with graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) and/or video content production/editing is a plus, but not required. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Enthusiasm for learning and taking on new challenges.Education: Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree with an anticipated graduation date of December 2024 or Spring 2025. Academic coursework in English composition, journalism, creative writing or similar writing-intensive fields is a plus, but not required. Academic coursework in economics, statistics, accounting or similar quantitative/analytical fields is a plus, but not required (data analysis is important in social media!). Academic coursework in marketing, PR and/or social media is a plus, but not required.Working Hours: This is a part-time internship position, requiring approximately 10 hours per week.
