Better Medicare Alliance (BMA) seeks a collaborative, energetic team member to help advance our communications goals. The Communications Manager will work with members of the communications, government affairs, and policy & research teams, as well as outside consultants, to translate complex policy and regulatory matters for our key audiences and help tell the story of how Medicare Advantage is improving seniors' lives.

The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker who thrives in a fast-paced environment. Experience in consulting, a trade association, government, journalism, or political campaigns is preferred. On a typical day, the Communications Manager will organize and send news clips, help field press inquiries, update internal lists and messaging materials, draft blog posts and other collateral, and update the website. The Communications Manager must be a self-starter, organized, and willing to build new skills and take on a range of assignments. They should be a team player with a positive attitude.

You will:

Report to the Vice President of CommunicationsSupport media relations activities including reporter engagement, writing press statements, reports, and other public-facing materialManage ally and government relations email updates, including BMA's monthly ally newsletterUpdate the BMA website as neededMonitor news outlets and social media for breaking news, trends, and developing storiesCurate and distribute daily news storiesDevelop content, presentations, and other material for internal and external audiencesPerform other duties as assignedThe ideal candidate will have:

3 years of communications experience with progressive responsibility in consulting, a trade association, government, journalism, or political campaignsHealth care experience as a plusExcellent writing, copy-editing, proofreading, and verbal communications skillsExperience working with email marketing platforms (MailChimp, Quorum) and web content management systems (Hootsuite, Sprout Social)Experience with media monitoring tools (Meltwater, Cision)Basic PowerPoint skillsAbility to self-start, think ahead, problem solve, engage proactively, and work as part of a teamStrong time management and organization skills, ability to balance and prioritize tasks, and attention to detailWillingness to learn new skills and jump in on projectsWe offer:

BMA works in person at our downtown D.C. office on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. We work from home Monday, Thursday, and Friday.
