Job Description SummaryThe Sub-Section Manager - Thermal Systems Design will deliver thermal design solutions for GE Aerospace Edison Works (EW) military jet engines. In this role you will direct the team to design and optimize component/system using heat transfer and fluid mechanics analysis tools, rig testing, and engine testing. You will contribute to new product introduction, improving existing products, and resolving manufacturing issues working closely with mechanical design team. Components include hot gas path hardware such as blades and nozzles, heat exchangers, seals, and mechanical/fluid systems. Will have a team of direct reports, with moderate autonomy, requiring high levels of technical and operational judgment. Has significant input into priorities of the team members, impacting their quality, efficiency and effectiveness.Job DescriptionRoles and ResponsibilitiesExecute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements. This work requires a good understanding of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and heat transferManages a small to medium team of senior professionals as well as others. Requires specialized knowledge within the function. Influence the development of strategy for the area of responsibility, including control of resources and influences policy formulation.Interprets simple internal and external business challenges and recommends best practices to improve products, processes or services. Stays informed of industry trends that may inform work.Uses high level of judgment to make decisions and handle complex tasks or problems in areas of operational, product management, manufacturing, technology or engineering. Has ability to assess quality of information given and ask pertinent questions to stakeholders. Able to offer new solutions to problems outside of set parameters and is able to construct and provide recommendations. Uses multiple internal and some external sources outside of own function to help arrive at a decision.May lead functional teams or projects with minimal resource requirements, risk, and/or complexity. May guide others to consider a different point of view.Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited university or collegeMinimum of 5 years of experience in design engineeringDesired CharacteristicsMaster's degree in engineering from an accredited university or collegeStrong oral and written communication skills.Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems.Demonstrated ability to lead programs / projects.Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs.Established project management skills.Demonstrated experience with design, test, and analysis tools relating to thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, flow networks, or heat transfer.This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information.
