The Polis Center is an applied research center at IU Indianapolis in the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering. Polis makes data actionable for improving community health, equity, and resilience. Job Summary

This position will support the UI/UX team through user testing, evaluation, and creation and maintenance of site maps and user flows to support a seamless and positive user experience.

Department-Specific ResponsibilitiesResearches, strategizes, conceptualizes, proposes, and designs creative projects for the center and its partners, including print and interactive media; Projects will include data-focused websites, informational websites, and various print pieces to support marketing, research, and service projects.May coordinate with vendors, external partners, and university stakeholders.May have occasional duties in support of other functions or administrative needs.Maintains consistency across all media and platforms.Collaborates on the implementation of web designs, particularly using content management systems like WordPress, and contributes to the graphical customization of websites using plugins like Divi.Takes on special and/or urgent projects.Designs intuitive and visually appealing user interfaces that align with project goals. Ensures designs are responsive and accessible across all devices.Regularly consults with internal and external key stakeholders to determine project needs and ensure graphic design elements align with strategy and objectives.Regularly reviews and enhances design workflows, implements new tools to streamline production, and maintains SOP documentation for consistent and efficient design tasks.Seeks input from peers and stakeholders on a variety of graphic design elements to evaluate effectiveness of different aesthetics, colors, fonts, images, etc.Develops clear and compelling visual presentations to communicate design concepts and strategies to stakeholders.Develops wireframes, prototypes, and user flows to illustrate design concepts and user interactions, utilizing tools like Figma and Adobe Illustrator.Conducts usability tests on prototypes and live products to gather user feedback. Analyzes results to refine and optimize designs for better user experience, incorporating insights from heuristic evaluations.Works closely with developers to ensure design specifications are met during the coding process. Provides design feedback and support during the development phase.Proactively identifies new design opportunities, tackles projects with urgency and enthusiasm, engages in continuous learning by experimenting with new techniques, and reflects on both successes and failures to grow.Ensures all digital deliverables adhere to current accessibility standards, promoting usability for diverse user groups.May provide organizational training on graphic design methodology and strategy.May provide guidance to student interns.At director's discretion, the employee may be assigned different or additional duties from time to time.General Responsibilities

Identifies basic and complex graphic design projects and performs research, conceptualizes design, sets timeline, and designs visual elements for use in a variety of marketing and communications needs, adhering to IU brand guidelines.Regularly consults with marketing and communications staff and other key stakeholders to determine project needs and ensure graphic design elements align with strategy and objectives.Designs the layout and format for digital and print graphic design content, including selection of colors, images, fonts, logos, and placement, for various marketing and communications needs, audiences, and platforms.Creates images, graphic elements, illustrations, and other visual content using a variety of graphic software, including Adobe Creative Suite and PowerPoint; takes on special and/or urgent projects.Seeks input from peers and stakeholders on a variety of graphic design elements to evaluate effectiveness of different aesthetics, colors, fonts, images, etc.May provide organizational training on graphic design methodology and strategy.May provide guidance to Graphic Design Assistants.Qualifications

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. This position is grant funded with expected annual renewals. Renewals are contingent on the availability of grant funds.
