Summary:

Responsible for lighting and post processing work on levels and cinematics utilizing proprietary tools. Is expected to adhere to internal workflows and a strong understanding of physically based rendering. A solid understanding of technical aspects of the job regarding performance, scripting, and debugging of issues is required. Must have strong time management and communication skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

include the following:

Implementing, maintaining and refining of real-time level and cinematic lighting.Sets up scene lights to consistently match color keys and concept art with an excellent understanding of project lighting styleSelf-directed and able to work independently to maintain consistent excellent aesthetics and technical quality in all lighting tasksTroubleshoots large scale scene files and rendering issuesTroubleshoots materials for PBR (Physically Based Rendering) complianceOptimizing and troubleshooting lighting issues related to performance.Diagnoses and fixes lighting issues and bugsWorks closely with other art departments to ensure assets are properly set up for lightingCollaborates with designers to ensure that the correct areas are emphasized for gameplay with clear player pathsWorks with Art Director and Lead Lighter to help further the lighting style of projectHelps tech artists and other senior lighting staff to test and debug new lighting technologyOther duties may be assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience:

Five plus years of professional experience or training, or an equivalent amount of education and experience.

Language Skills:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Computer Skills:

Strong knowledge of modern lighting techniques in real-time computer graphics. Experience with source control with Perforce or the equivalent. Strong understanding of real-time shaders and how they relate to lighting. Solid understanding of scripting lighting interactions. Strong understanding of Maya and Photoshop.

Other Skills:

Strong understanding of lighting aesthetics, how lighting affects gameplay and guides the player, of real-time lighting and frame/ memory optimizations, how lighting affects physically based materials.
