This position is located in The National Museum of African Art (NMAFA), which is the only national museum in the United States dedicated to the collection, exhibition, conservation, and study of the arts of Africa.OverviewAccepting applicationsOpen & closing dates: 08/30/2024 to 09/13/2024Salary$82,764 - $107,590 per yearPay scale & gradeGS 11LocationWashington, DCAppointment typePermanent - FederalWork scheduleFull-timeJob family (Series)1016 Museum Specialist And TechnicianSupervisory statusNoSecurity clearanceOtherDrug testNoTravel RequiredNot requiredDutiesThe Museum Specialist administers the museum’s collections information system, manages collections data and digital assets, and assists with the physical management and care of the collections.In This Position, You Will:Be responsible for the overall management and continued development of TMS (The Museum System) and similar CIS (collection information systems) including application administration, training, and support.Coordinate database needs and resources for all Museum departments; serve as the primary point of contact with the system vendor, articulating requirements and enhancements to the program and reporting problems with the system to ensure efficient data input, retrieval, display, and storage capability.Coordinate incoming and outgoing information to and from the CIS with peers and the supervisor and work with Digital Assets to ensure the linking of digital images and other multi-media to the database.Develop abbreviated guides, tip sheets, and other instructional aids that help staff users with common system functions; develop a training curriculum tailored to overall museum needs and the specific work of individual offices.Develop and carry out a multi-faceted training program for Museum staff of individual instruction, classroom sessions, and telephone support.Use available software tools to create a comprehensive library of forms and reports to support the various museum functions; coordinate system installs and upgrades to both the server and client workstations; send reports required by OCIO.RequirementsPass Pre-employment Background InvestigationMay need to complete a Probationary PeriodMaintain a Bank Account for Direct Deposit/Electronic TransferMales born after 12/31/59 must be registered with Selective Service.QualificationsBasic QualificationsExperience related to the operation or management of a museum or similar collection of valuable objects. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include collections management, registration, cataloging, research, preservation, restoration, or conservation of collections of museum material, or other experience related to the position to be filled.In Addition To The Basic Qualification Requirement Above:Experience:

You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal Service.

For this position, specialized experience is defined as
