Over 1,000 professionals help lead the work of over 5,000 volunteers to coalesce the best thinking of the American scientific community.As a crucial part of our strategic integrated communications, The Office of the Chief Communications Officer (OCCO) is recruiting for a communications specialist with a creative and analytical mindset and excellent attention to detail to join our Digital Engagement team.As the Email Communications Specialist, you will oversee our primary email channel and manage, create and deploy emails and SMS from start to finish, including building emails and SMS from templates and HTML, conducting A/B tests, managing calendars, communicating standards and optimizing emails based on best practices. Post campaigns, you will provide performance reports to help guide future campaigns. In addition, you will support and train our program unit and communications staff in their use of email and SMS platforms and help to develop and implement a consistent and effective strategy for bulk email communication across the Academies.ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:Manage and otherwise oversee primary email channel of >400,000 subscribers.Research and draft content for email outreach. Where applicable, coordinate and/or collaborate with staff responsible for the web content and social media activities.Create and deploy emails and SMS from start to finish.Conduct A/B testing of individual messages and report on findings.Provide periodic performance reports for primary email channel.Support and train program unit and communications staff in the use of email and SMS platforms.Help to develop and implement Academies strategy for bulk email.Provide assistance and input to staff creating communication and dissemination plans.Collaborate with staff to identify target audiences and appropriate vehicles for reaching those audiences.As applicable, plan the release of reports and organize dissemination meetings and briefings.Participate in the establishment of guidelines and formats for communication materials.Manage the email and SMS production flow and manage requests via our project management system.Prepare statistics, perform trends analyses, and conduct surveys to provide feedback and recommendations to supervisor.Assist in the design and implementation of outreach and communication activities and dissemination of related information or National Academies' publications.Advise management on potential problems with assigned projects and with bulk email and/or SMS related issues.Fully understand and develop, update, and maintain our email system, including the configuration and contact management.NONESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:Related duties and special projects as assigned.JOB SPECIFICATIONSRequired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Strong knowledge and experience with HTML. Familiarity with MailChimp, SQL, and the Adobe Suite a plus. Have a creative eye for great design. Organized, exceptional attention to detail and meticulous. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to juggle many tasks and prioritize assignments. Analytical and can report and analyze different types of data and trends with actionable takeaways and conclusions.Minimum Education/Training Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree in Communications or related field, or equivalent knowledge.Minimum Experience:

One year of related professional experience. 2+ years of experience in email marketing preferred.Physical Capabilities:

Ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time. Ability to access exhibition spaces.Required Licenses, Certification or Registration:

Reports to supervisor/manager. Sets objectives with supervisor.Compensation Range:

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine support equity, fairness, and transparency in our compensation programs. An estimated compensation range for this position is $56,410 - $70,510. Compensation offered to the selected candidate will be based on the candidate's relevant knowledge, skills, and work experience, commensurate with compensation of current employees in comparable positions with similar knowledge, skills, and work experience, and subject to budget parameters. Note it is not typical for a candidate to be hired at the higher end of the range.Work Environment:
