TradesResume and Cover Letter are mandatory to apply for any position.Radio Broadcast EngineerSUMMARYUnder general supervision, provides senior-level technical support for the operations of the MPS radio station KBEM; acts as primary source of technical information and problem-solving for broadcast engineering and radio operations issues, and assures compliance with FCC regulations.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS -- Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Employees are required to be in attendance and prepared to begin work at their assigned work location on the specified days and hours. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:Operates and maintains broadcast engineering and radio operations equipment for the MPS radio station KBEM; monitors operations, and resolves technical engineering issues; KBEM radio station is licensed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).Assures that KBEM complies with MPS policies and procedures, state and Federal government rules and regulations for public telecommunications, and FCC regulations in Title 47 - Code of Federal Regulations.Works independently, and makes appropriate decisions based on experience; performs work within scope of authority and training.Maintains broadcast equipment and assures proper function of control rooms, broadcast studios, broadcast classrooms and remote broadcast installations.Maintains and operates radio transmitters, Studio transmitter links, and web streaming infrastructure.Designs and implements studio and transmitter equipment and infrastructure revisions; consults with MPS staff and/or consulting engineers to define needs, technical requirements and cost-effectiveness of revisions.Maintains KBEM operational logs and records of operational parameters; maintains Public Information File required by Code of Federal Regulations (47 C.F.R. §§ 73.3527)Maintains computerized broadcast automation including its links to traffic and music logs & External program sources from the web & satelliteMixes live sound and edits masters sound recordingsCoordinates between MPS and contracted telecommunications services providers.Teaches programming skills and technical and legal operation of the radio station to staff and students.May produce and present on-air programming.Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with students, clients, visitors, and MPS staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.Enthusiastically promotes the Superintendent’s goals and priorities in compliance with all policies and procedures.Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, records and MPS information.Other duties or tasks may be assigned on an as-needed basisAt times may be required to work outside normal business hours and work extended hours to accomplish requirements of the position.Radio Broadcast Engineer.doc 2 of 2MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation, Training and Experience Guidelines Associate’s Degree in Broadcast Technology, Electronics, Computer Science, or a related field; AND four (4) years of experience as a broadcast and sound engineering technician and radio operator; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by Human Resources.Knowledge of:RFITAudioFCC guidelines, rules, and regulations governing telecommunications operations.Principles of broadcast engineering and radio operations.Current legislative, political, and economic trends in broadcast engineering and radio operations.Methods and techniques used in the maintenance and repair of broadcast equipment.Federal and state safety rules and regulations, including OSHA requirements.Skill in:Maintaining, repairing, testing and troubleshooting electrical, electronic, and mechanical systems and equipment.Managing digital audio programming and radio automation systems.Evaluating technical issues and effectively prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands.Using standard techniques, tools and equipment for repairing communications equipment.Teaching, mentoring and supervising high school students.Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers and clients.Promoting and enforcing safe work practices.Using initiative and independent judgment within established procedural guidelines.Operating a personal computer utilizing standard office software.Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.Editing and mastering audio recordingsLICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTSA valid Minnesota State Driver’s License may be required. FCC General Class Radiotelephone Operator license is required.PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENTWork is performed in a radio station and standard office environment which requires occasionally lifting such articles as file boxes or heavier materials with help from others and/or lifting and carrying light objects frequently. A job in this category may require walking or standing to a significant degree or may involve sitting most of the time with long periods of computer work and heavy phone usage. Requires vision capacity to perform fine calibrations and differentiate between colored wires.ORGANIZATIONAL INFORMATIONBargaining Unit: Trades – Electrical – Local 292Grade:FLSA Status: Non-ExemptFinal candidates may be invited to interview with a committee.
