Is this your next job Read the full description below to find out, and do not hesitate to make an application.We are seeking an experienced and talented Writer/Editor to join our Health Communications Team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in health content development, editorial management, and web content production. This role involves overseeing the creation and distribution of health communication materials, managing content for the agency’s website, and ensuring all materials meet the highest standards of accuracy, usability, and compliance.

Primary Responsibilities:

Content Development:

Generate and develop original health communication materials for the agency’s website, newsletters, online publications, training manuals, campaigns, incentives, and advertisements.

Conduct research to verify facts, dates, and statistics as necessary.

Collaborate with Division and marketing staff to determine the content direction of newsletters and other materials.

Project Management:

Manage project schedules and ensure timely rollout of newsletters, marketing campaigns, and health communication initiatives throughout the year.

Work closely with the Division Director to develop, review, and approve final content for all materials.

Oversee website content management, including maintaining customer mini-sites, refreshing topic areas, and writing original articles and features.

Editing & Layout:

Evaluate, proofread, and edit content for readability, style, and adherence to brand guidelines.

Ensure all content meets web usability standards, government print standards, and HHS and FOH policies.

Compose headlines, prepare copy for printing, and format web and print content using layout applications and web design technologies.

Develop “camera ready” copy for printing and review proofs for accuracy.

Production:

Ensure the printing and distribution of newsletters and other recurring communications.

Design complementary print and electronic versions of newsletters in coordination with creative staff and web programmers, including image selection, layout, and developing structures for web usability and access.

Manage the distribution of newsletters in both hardcopy and electronic formats (HTML and PDF), and maintain the mailing distribution lists.

Additional Responsibilities:

Perform general editorial duties on projects, such as planning the content of training manuals and other agency publications.

Provide editorial support for other communications projects as needed.

Support meetings and conferences by developing presentations and briefings.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Location:

This position is based within the Federal government sector, with potential for occasional travel depending on project needs.

Qualifications:

Education : Master’s Degree in a relevant field.

Experience : 7 to 10 years of experience in writing and editing, with a focus on health content.

Specific Experience :

At least three years of experience overseeing the development of health or medical website content for a professional organization, with a focus on maintaining content integrity.

Proficiency in writing and editing health topics, ranging from wellness to clinical subjects, and the ability to communicate these topics clearly to a lay audience.

Experience with government printing, publishing, and binding standards, including Web usability requirements (Section 508, 29 U.S.C.).

Experience with web layout, graphics software, and content management systems.

Skills :

Ability to work independently and make editorial judgments confidently.

Strong multitasking and adaptability skills in a fast-paced environment.

Proficiency in Microsoft applications and basic computer and website use.

Compensation:

Min: $50,000 | Max: $70,000

Pay range is based on several factors and may vary in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits. The final salary and offer will be determined by the applicant’s background, experience, skills, internal equity, and alignment with geographical market data.
