Together, we’re the next BIG thing in data.Job Description Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Develop and deliver next generation read head designs for magnetic recording headsExplore/evaluate novel read sensor structure/material to support HDD areal density growth through cooperation within company and outside academia institutionsInitiate DOE, conduct detailed analysis and generate clear and actionable conclusion, provide roadmap for future recording head designQualifications

Ph.D degree in physics, materials science and engineering.3 or more years of experience in spintronics and magnetic recording/magnetic memory Industry environment.Knowledge of magnetic recording head, hard disk drive, magnetic memory or semiconductor industry principles, practices, and techniquesKnowledge in micro-magnetic modeling, Finite Element Method (FEM) for electronic devices, and device characterizationAbility to integrate individual technology from wide area to achieve final requirement.Experience in design of experiments, mathematical and statistical data analysis, and statistical process control.Data analysis skills and the ability to apply these skills to manipulate and analyze large data setsStrong verbal and written communication skillsAdditional Information Western Digital is committed to providing equal opportunities to all applicants and employees and will not discriminate based on any legally protected characteristics. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and this range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in California, Colorado, New York or remote jobs that can be performed in these states.You will be eligible to participate in Western Digital’s Short-Term Incentive (STI) Plan, which provides incentive awards based on Company and individual performance.
