The Communications Manager is responsible for media relations for Deer Valley. This role supports the Director of Communications with developing and implementing PR and Communication plans, including community engagement and brand efforts. The ideal candidate is a skilled written and verbal communicator, organized, collaborative, innovative, and driven by ideas.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Public Relations Planning and Execution

Assist in the development and management of the annual public relations planDeliver compelling brand stories to secure media coverage across local, national, and international outletsMain point of contact for all resort media requestsGenerate and manage relationships with key influencers and media contactsInitiate, coordinate, and conduct press requests, FAM tours, and visitsAct as resort spokesperson or assign appropriate spokesperson when neededManage onsite press centers for events, as neededAssist with annual update and management of the the Crisis Communications PlanHelp fulfill Alterra Mountain Company's PR needs including resort development, Ikon pass messaging and company-wide campaignsInternal Communication and HR Collaboration:

Collaborate with the HR team to create and deliver consistent on-brand narratives to staffAssist in crafting leadership messaging and talking points to ensuring alignment between internal and external communicationsWork with the HR team to create and help manage an overall internal communication strategy including messaging regarding events, activities and BU updatesMessaging and Copywriting:

Oversee all messaging needs for Deer Valley ResortUnify all external messaging to contribute to brand reputation managementWrite and distribute press releases, talking points, FAQs, and communication plansSupport the marketing team with copywriting and editing needsEnsure consistency in internal and external messaging across all resort business unitsStakeholder Engagement and Community Relations

Monitor and track stakeholder feedback and community conversationsDevelop communication plans, public statements, and FAQs based on feedbackFoster relationships with key brand influencers and the local communityHandle guest relations and reputation management through Medallia survey responsesCommunity outreach initiativesBudget and Agency Management

Optimize budget for successful public relations plans and community outreach campaignsManage contracted PR and Community Outreach agenciesMisc.

Provide support, templates, translations, and best practices for communications across companyRepresent Deer Valley at PR committee meetings for external organizationsQUALIFICATIONS:

Degree in communications, public relations, marketing, or journalism preferred7+ years of experience in tourism and/or hospitality or development communications, agency experience preferredFamiliarity with standard industry practices in professional communications and public relationsProven organizational skills, project management experience is a plusExcellent written and oral communication skills, copywriting experience is a plusExisting contacts and relationships within Utah and national hospitality, travel, and mainstream mediaExperience in community relations and engaging key stakeholdersAbility to facilitate strategic dialogue and problem-solving across multiple departmentsSelf-starter with strong multitasking abilitiesWillingness to work on weekends and attend early morning or late evening eventsAvailability to travel to domestic and international media events, meetings, conferences, and trade showsWillingness to host meal/event functions with mediaAbility to provide coverage for other staff members and work in other areas of operation during peak seasonsIntermediate or above skiing ability requiredDATES OF EMPLOYMENT:

Pay: $60,000 - 80,000 annually
