Overview

The Interior Design Leader is a design leadership role responsible for establishing, inspiring, and directing the comprehensive development of the interior design process for the Washington DC LEO A DALY office. This includes designing inspiring and innovative interior environments for clients across all market sectors. The Interior Design Leader is a broadly-experienced Thought Leader who is passionate about interior design as a discipline and craft. Additional broad activities include: collaborative strategic business development, design leadership and implementation, overall quality of interior workplace design practices, and assessing present/future needs, technologies, trends, issues, and opportunities related to design and project management.

Responsibilities

Confidently sit at the forefront of workplace and other interior design, for the DC office of an international multidisciplinary design firm and be comfortable leading cutting edge workplace design with demonstrable portfolio experience.

Use your passion for design to transform how people work, live, play and boldly advance the workplace and other interior spaces of the future. You are familiar with and can lead a team through various strategies of interior spaces and understand change management.

Develop a design methodology that is competitive, targeted and the future of the practice and leverage this research through thought leadership as well as integrating into practice.

The Interior Design Leader will report to the WDC Managing Principal and will advance LEO A DALY’s interior design practice for all markets in alignment with the office strategic plan and initiatives.

Business Development and Client Relations

Work collaboratively with the WDC Managing Principal to develop and implement the strategic plan and assist in Business Development opportunities.

Collaboratively work together to develop winning key pursuit strategies, targeted client capture plans and assist in reviewing key submittals.

Play an integral leadership design role in capturing new work by providing insight to the practice leaders and managing principal as part of the team.

Attend key interviews representing and promoting LEO A DALY’s Interior Design practice and services.

Maintain positive client relationships before during and after project delivery.

Collaborate with office leadership to inspire achievement of strategic goals.

Ensure client satisfaction with responsiveness to inquiries, anticipating needs, innovative approaches, problem-solving and open communication.

Represent LEO A DALY as a thought leader at industry events, professional conferences, meetings, committees, and networking.

Leadership

Champion our strengths as one firm, creating an interconnected design focus and alignment - building an interior design practice together in the WDC office.

Consult and coordinate on opportunities, appropriate staffing mix and assignments with consideration of skills and career development of staff.

Work closely with office leadership on recruitment and retention of office interior design staff.

Assess industry resources, expertise and experience to recommend key hires in building a best-in-class team.

Be a recognized expert and trusted advisor in all matters of the interior design practice.

Promote an inclusive, positive workplace culture and provide thoughtful collaboration.

Coordinates communications, stakeholder contacts and maintains good working relationships.

Management

Responsible for managing, coordinating, and administering a group of projects from conceptual stages through all phases of the projects, with the assistance of the project teams.

Leads in reporting and ensuring project completion within budget, schedule and in conformance with specifications.

Reviews consultant contracts, scope documents, and available data for the project, and establishes schedules and budgets for compliance with project scope requirements.

Takes leadership initiative in working with internal team members and external stakeholders including cost/scheduling, procurement, quality assurance, construction, contracts, legal, labor relations, finance, accounting and other services and departments as required to successfully manage projects.

Provides an integrated project team approach in working with designers, contractors, governing agencies, and community stakeholders.

Responsible to proactively monitor critical project milestone dependencies, and track actions which may result in risks to critical project milestones.

Reviews project key performance indicators and forecasts any modifications to schedules, cost estimates, and financial reports, and effectively reconciles risks to commitments that may exceed assigned schedules and budgets.

Conducts project coordination and client meetings as necessary to review progress and discuss upcoming work.

Works with stakeholders to negotiate and resolve conflicts, disputes, and potential claims on behalf of the client.

Qualifications

Bachelors degree in Interior Design or Architecture required. Master’s Degree preferred.

Registered Interior Designer with current NCIDQ certification or licensed architect with current registration. NCARB registration preferred.

15+ years of experience with large Interiors or Architecture firm.

10+ years of experience leading an Interiors team with a focus on Workplace.

Proven ability to create and maintain strong working relationships with external clients.

Reputable professional references required.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in Interior Design or Architecture.

LEED Accreditation, WELL Certification, or FitWELL Certification preferred.
