POSITION OBJECTIVE

The Grant Writing Consultant will provide substantive and developmental advising, editing and rewriting of scientific and medical manuscripts, grant proposals, literature reviews and other documents written by multi-disciplinary research teams at Case Western Reserve University. The consultant will provide advanced-level editorial work in a scientific publishing environment to include: substantive and/or developmental editing/rewriting of manuscripts and other documents; handling multiple publishing projects simultaneously; proofreading; using track changes on a computer; and working with faculty, postgraduate researchers, staff, and administration. The Grant Writing Consultant is a professional possessing specialized skills and experience in critical analysis of biomedical, life-sciences, engineering and other fields of university research, written scientific and medical communication, educational design, project management, and content development. The consultant will also conduct overall proposal management for their assigned portfolio. The position work closely with principal investigators and multi-disciplinary research teams to edit research proposals and related supplemental documents. The Grant Writing Consultant will also develop and conduct seminars and scientific workshops on scientific writing and proposal development.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Serve as an expert writing and editorial consultant for faculty in the grant proposal process. Collaborate with researchers to translate scientific concepts into language appropriate for the targeted funding opportunity. Review and edit scientific content for research grant proposals, letters of intent, concept/white papers, and supplemental documents interpreting complex information and ensuring that narrative content is clear, responsive and compliant with sponsor guidelines. Provide writing support for faculty such as letters of support and award nomination packages. Interpret funder goals and ensure proposal is written and positioned strategically to foster success. Coordinate with the office of Strategic Partnership and Research Collaborative's research administrators and technical illustrator to ensure completion of all proposal components. (40%)

2. Ensure the quality of all scientific content of documents with a focus on clarity, accuracy, completeness and consistency while maintaining relevant compliance. Research and synthesize scientific literature relevant to research projects as needed using various information sources, including in-house reference system, PubMed, governmental and organizational websites, and other sources to provide appropriate understanding and technical review of submitted writing. Conduct in-depth review of written scientific data to ensure its appropriate translation and presentation. Identify problem areas in scientific writings such as in manuscripts and grants, including logical presentation, coherence, clarity, and grammatical issues. Recommend solutions to the project individual or team. Review manuscripts edited by faculty to improve their editing skills. Participate in project planning, author, and team meetings. Consult with faculty regarding their projects. (20%)

3. Provide proposal management for faculty. Organize and manage weekly proposal team meetings and cross-disciplinary working groups, to facilitate efficient development and submission of proposals. (20%)

4. Design and deliver multimedia presentations, workshops and seminars for university faculty and researchers related to proposal development and scientific writing. Content must be such that faculty are provided knowledge and skills to improve the competitiveness of their research proposals. (10%)
