DescriptionThis position in the Office of Marketing, Communications and Engagement develops and executes publicity programs for the Office of Marketing and Communications with specialization in marketing account management, program coordination, social media and writing. In close collaboration with faculty, they create communications that distill complex scientific information into compelling language and formats appropriate for all stakeholder audiences - alumni, donors, industry partners, government entities, and prospective high-achieving and underrepresented students. This position develops relationships with faculty in order to identify and investigate story leads, collaborates with faculty and conducts interviews to understand the interviewees' areas of expertise and the societal impact of their research, and tells clear and engaging stories. This individual will meet regularly with the Multidisciplinary Biomedical and Biological Science (MBBS) Graduate Program, Basic Science departments and the Associate Dean for Research, specifically including Population Science and Policy, Pharmacology, Molecular Biology, Microbiology and Biochemistry, and basic science units based in Carbondale. They facilitate communications needs, identify and develop creative marketing strategies, write and fully execute content development tactics, and represent departments/institutes at external events and meetings.Examples of Duties50% Writes and edits promotional and informational material based on scientific and research publications and manages communications, marketing plans and promotional programs for SIU School of Medicine assigned units and programs. Incumbent: (a) creates and implements academic recruitment marketing strategies; (b) researches and gathers information about the academic aspects, programs, policies, events or external outreach affecting operations; (c) drafts, edits and verifies content for academic, clinical, or research communications through all media including, website, social platforms, media relations, marketing collateral and events; (d) assists department/institute administration in the development of internal department/institute communications materials, presentations; (e) manages promotions of public education, outreach and special events; (f) represents the department/institute at public events with community groups as needed.

20% Develops digital and social media content and strategies to improve the online presence of assigned units and programs. Incumbent (a) manages and monitors online presence and develops content and managing social media strategies including geo-targeted and paid campaigns; (b) creates and administers content for various campaigns across multiple social media platforms; (c) measures and tracks social media growth, campaigns and advertisements and recommends changes in strategy.

15% Plans and coordinates media relations activities, facilitates media inquiries and researches media markets to determine proper message and audience for assigned unit/programs. Incumbent (a) serves as liaison between assigned units/programs and outside media and partners; (b) determines method of dissemination regarding information provided to media and multimedia sources; (c) establishes and maintains media and public information contacts; records, edits and produces multimedia content for assigned department events; (d) develops, coordinates, and implements press events.

15% Participates in enterprise level communications, marketing and design projects that assist SIU Medicine in telling a unified story about the value of academic medicine and the SIU Medicine brand.Qualifications1. Bachelor's degree in English, communications, journalism, radio/television broadcasting, web/digital media, public relations, marketing, business, research, biomedical or life sciences fields or related fields.2.
