Chamber of Progress is looking for a Director or Senior Director of Communications to lead all aspects of the organization’s aggressive communications strategy. This role will promote the organization's work on issues related to technology, financial, and civic innovation policy at the federal, state, and local level. This role oversees media relations, social media, rapid response, our Twitter strategy, op-ed writing and placement, press pitching and all aspects of the organization’s public facing communications.

Drive the organization’s media and communications strategyDevise creative strategies to inject Chamber of Progress’ views into press coverage and policy debatesConceive of earned media strategies to help us win our top policy campaigns - particularly defeating bad bills and passing good onesSupervise Communications Manager, who leads our op-ed writing & pitching program, manages daily press clips, and maintains our media databaseServe as primary liaison to journalists covering tech, transportation, crypto, labor and economic policy, as well as journalists covering state legislative debates.Pitch story ideas and interviews to online, print, broadcast, and podcast outletsWrite and edit all press statements and social media postsBe the guardian of the organization’s voice and reputation in the mediaOversee outside consultants assisting with broadcast & podcast pitching, as well as consultants managing projectsTrain staff members to speak with media on their areas of expertiseDevelop and implement a strategy for maintaining and growing the organization’s presence on digital media platforms.Qualifications

Bachelor's degree requiredSenior Director: At least 10 years of post-college work experienceDirector: At least 5 years of post-college work experienceRelentlessness - you are the kind of person who never rests on your laurelsPrior experience in communications roles in Congress, the Executive Branch, advocacy groups, political campaigns, or PR / public affairs firmsExperience working with journalists & deeply interested in the newsExtremely creativeExperience creating and driving public affairs campaigns to achieve public policy goalsOutstanding writing, editing, and communication skillsFluency with social media platforms and digital toolsWell-organized and proactive about problem solvingExperience with tech and innovation policy is helpful but not requiredBias toward actionMust be able to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlinesRole is located in Washington, DC.Compensation and Benefits

Full-time exempt position, with starting salary and level dependent upon experience levelSenior Director: starting salary between $140,000 - $180,000 annuallyDirector: starting salary between $110,000 - $140,000 annuallyChamber of Progress provides an excellent benefits package to all of its full-time employees including:A 401(k) retirement program with 4% employer matching;Employer subsidized medical, dental, and vision insurance;15 days of vacation in the first year of employment;8 paid holidays per year plus the week between Christmas Eve and New Years Day;12 weeks of paid parental leave.
