Capital City Public Charter School is seeking a Communications Manager to support and guide Capital City’s communications strategy. As Capital City enters its 25th year, the Communications Manager will play a critical role in helping share our story to diverse audiences, both internally and externally. With a focus on building awareness of our award-winning PreK-12th grade school and our approach to education, the Communications Manager will have an integral role in elevating Capital City’s profile both locally and nationally.

This is a 12-month, full-time in-person position which is exempt and therefore not eligible for overtime pay under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
Responsibilities:
External Communication Projects:
Developing a strong marketing and messaging strategy for Capital City, engaging stakeholders in the process.
Creating high-quality materials, both written pieces and visuals, to ensure consistent organizational messaging.
Managing school website, including drafting content and graphics, and assisting with website redesign project (currently in progress).
Drafting & designing communications for diverse audiences, such as e-newsletters, flyers, brochures, etc.
Pursuing outlets for media placements and coverage.
Preparing and disseminating press releases and maintaining media database.
Serving as primary media contact for the organization and managing all logistics associated with media visits.
Developing overall social media strategy and plan, ensuring successful implementation and evaluation of strategy, and staying on top of newest trends in social media.
Maintaining the school brand: standardized design for all materials, including school merchandise, newsletters, communication templates, brochures, and other print and web development and outreach materials.
Creating high-quality visuals to attract potential families and staff to Capital City.
Development-focused priorities:
Drafting content and designing materials for fundraising appeals in coordination with development team.
Creating promotional materials for fundraising initiatives.
Assisting in preparing presentations for internal and external meetings.
Internal Communications:
Standardizing design for all organizational materials including publications, merchandise, website, and outreach materials.
Taking high-quality photos and video of school events, students, and staff.
Managing marketing assets including edited videos, raw video footage, and photography.
Other Related Tasks:
Meet regularly with the development and outreach team.
Attend relevant school-based professional development sessions.
Qualifications:
Bachelor degree in related field, Master’s preferred.
At least three years of experience in communications, marketing, and/or fundraising.
Self-starter, able to work independently and collaboratively.
Knowledge of DC education landscape.
Excellent attention to detail, ability to multi-task and take initiative.
Strong written and communication skills.
Experience with design software, such as Adobe Suite.
Experience managing & updating websites.
Familiarity with Google Workspace.
Commitment to equity and social justice in education.
Bilingual candidates in Spanish a plus.
