Assistant Director for Health, Safety, & Event Planning

to advise and lead health and safety initiatives, including risk prevention efforts, event planning and monitoring, and policy compliance. The purpose of Fraternity & Sorority Life at Penn State is to support the mission and goals of the university, strengthen the scholarship and build the character and integrity of our members, promote brotherhood, sisterhood, and siblinghood, develop leadership, engage State College through community service and philanthropic efforts, and affirm personal and organizational responsibility. Reporting to the Senior Assistant Director for Health, Safety, & Event Planning, this position will support chapter leaders, advisors, and local house corporation personnel within a fraternity and sorority community of approximately 70 chapters and 4 distinct councils.Responsibilities include, but are not limited to :Coach chapters across all four governing councils, including regular meetings with chapter risk managers, event planners, and accountability officers.

Review and discuss chapter health and safety plans and event registrations.

Conduct pre-event walk-throughs and post-event meetings with chapter leadership to enhance the health, safety, and success of each registered event.

Participate in community on-site event monitoring and assessment program.

Analyze new member survey responses and conduct interviews with students about their new member education/intake experience.

Communicate and partner with chapter advisors, alumni, inter/national headquarters representatives, facility property managers, and other relevant stakeholders to discuss the progress of local chapters.

Facilitate health, safety, and event planning educational programsand training.

Assist chapters with developing relationships with local neighborhood associations, residents, and State College Borough officials.

Candidates must demonstrate :Understanding of student development, risk prevention and event planning concepts, and health and safety issues in the fraternity and sorority community.

Ongoing commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging and providing culturally competent and inclusive services to students and organizations from historically underrepresented communities.

Record of collaboration with students, University departments, inter/national headquarters, and other stakeholders.

Effective communication skills, including motivational interviewing, advising, and coaching.

Ability to balance holding students accountable with developing positive and trusting relationships.

Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to resolve conflict.

Presentation and training facilitation skills.

The position requires a bachelor’s degree or higher and 3+ years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and related experience. A willingness and ability to work flexible hours to support night and weekend activities is required, including as a part of the shared, rotating schedule for on-site event assessment, approximately one or two weeks a month.This position offers a flexible work arrangement that combines remote and on-campus work.
