As a part of the interdisciplinary team, the Board Certified Music Therapist provides clinical music therapy services to Winchester Medical Center patients and their families in accordance with the interdisciplinary plan of care. Goals addressed by the music therapist may include: relaxation and anxiety reduction, reminiscence/life review, decrease in perception of pain and other symptoms, increase in sense of well-being, facilitation of emotional expression, and decrease in feelings of isolation. Techniques such as therapeutic singing, song choice, improvisational music making, guided imagery, song writing, progressive relaxation techniques, lyric analysis, visualization, and personalized music playlists may be utilized to meet care plan goals. The music therapist may also consult with others regarding the therapeutic uses of music and may coordinate educational in-services for patients, families, and staff. The music therapist assists the music therapy department as needed to develop and evaluate music therapy programs and initiatives.

Education

Bachelor's degree (or Equivalency) from a program accredited by the American Music Therapy Association

Master's degree preferred (can be in a related field, such as counseling, social work, psychology, etc.)

Experience

One year of experience in providing music therapy services is required. Consideration will be made for time spent in practicum or internship providing music therapy services.

Two years of experience providing music therapy services in a hospital or healthcare setting is preferred.

Certification & Licensure

MT-BC (Music Therapist - Board Certified) or MT-BC eligible from the Certification Board for Music Therapists is required

Qualifications

Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, and musical skills

Ability to interact with a diverse community of people

Quality musicianship, including broad repertoire and improvisation skills
