Job Type: Part-Time (approx. 15 hours per week)

Overview: St. Barnabas Episcopal Parish in Denver, Colorado, is seeking a dynamic and experienced Music Director.

Serve as choir director of the St. Barnabas Choir.

Choose and teach hymns and service music for the principal liturgy of the parish for each Sunday in collaboration with the Priest and based on the themes of the weekly assigned scripture readings and the Church year.

Choose choir anthems based on the themes of the weekly assigned scripture readings and the Church year.

Plan and conduct choir rehearsals each week while the choir is in session. Choir rehearsals are currently scheduled for 7:00-8:45 p.m. each Thursday.

Attend the weekly staff meeting of the parish, which currently meets at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesdays.

Arrange for special music on Sundays when the choir does not sing, primarily during the summer from the third Sunday in June through Labor Day weekend, but may also include various Sundays during the year.

Choose music for hymnody and choir anthems that reflect a variety of styles (e.g., classical, gospel and spirituals, world music, contemporary, etc.) with an emphasis on expanding the congregation’s musical choices and enhancing the congregation’s worship.

Give input concerning the music budget to the Finance committee each year as it develops the parish budget.

Supervise the organist and other instrumentalists used for congregational song or to support the choir.

Attend and participate in the Worship and the Arts committee, which currently meets on the third Wednesdays of the month at 4:00 p.m.

Responsible for creating and providing graphics of the hymnody in the weekly bulletins.

Responsible for cantoring or scheduling cantors for weekly services and Holy Week.

Responsible for keeping music license and music reporting current.

The position is expected to be 15 hours a week. The yearly pay is $16,000.
