Job Summary

In your role as Technical Design Manager at SouthWood Corporation, your day-to-day responsibilities will revolve around ensuring client satisfaction and the efficient execution of design projects. You'll interact with clients, develop relationships, and expand our design services. You'll lead design meetings, delegate tasks to your team, and train new members. Your core task will be ensuring high-quality shop drawings are produced, maintaining consistency across departments, and managing your workload effectively. For more complex projects, you'll provide oversight to ensure timely and accurate completion. Additionally, you'll collaborate closely with project managers and the fabrication/installation teams to guarantee project accuracy and avoid delays. This role will require some extra hours to manage workload and meet project deadlines.

Responsibilities

Leadership:

Setting Direction: Translating and communicating company vision and goals to your team, ensuring department alignment with broader objectives set by the leadership team.Motivating and Inspiring: Inspire and motivate your team to achieve departmental or project-specific goals, including guidance, mentorship, and coaching to help team members excel in their roles.Decision-Making: Responsible for making operational decisions within the area of authority, weighing options, analyzing data, and making choices that align with our overall strategy.

Managing:

Resource Allocation: Allocate resources, including budget, personnel, and materials, to ensure that projects and tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.Project and Task Management: Oversee the planning, execution, and monitoring of projects/tasks, ensuring that they stay on track, meet deadlines, and stay within budget.Performance Management: Assess the performance of team members, provide feedback, conduct performance reviews, and make recommendations around promotions, raises, or other personnel matters.Problem-Solving: Responsible for addressing operational challenges, resolving conflicts, and finding solutions to problems that may arise within your team.

Accountability:

Goal Achievement: Accountable for achieving departmental or team-specific goals and objectives. Tracking progress, identifying areas that need improvement, and taking action to ensure goals are met.Reporting and Metrics: Responsible for reporting and results tied to metrics (KPIs) related to your department/team.Process Improvement: Responsible for identifying opportunities for process improvement within their areas of responsibility and implementing changes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.Compliance and Policy Adherence: Ensure teams adhere to company policies and procedures.

Safety:

Train employees in how to properly conduct their job in a safe manner, to include equipment use.Enforce all safety rules and document safety incidents with the QC and Safety Manager.

Complete and On Time:

Setting and evaluating quality control and assurance standards, along with best practices.Consistent supervision and training for quality control and quality assurance.

Process:

Adherence to all SouthWood processes and standards.

Project Execution:

You will engage with project managers, production, and installation teams to ensure production drawings and designs are completed accurately and meet company standards. Own production of high-level technical drawings, particularly for high-profile or intricate projects.

Qualifications And Skills:

Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design, Architecture, Engineering, or similar design-related field.Minimum 5 years' design industry experience.Proven success in technical design through portfolio work.Extensive technical design experience.Extensive knowledge in drafting and CAD, including Adobe Illustrator, Corel Draw, and 3D CAD.Extensive sign design, fabrication, and installation knowledge for all project types.Leadership and team management skills.Excellent time management and communication skills.
