Environmental/Transportation/Engineering Technical Editor,

located near any WSP US office, with substantial experience editing documents in the fields of environmental permitting or CERCLA, transportation research or engineering, or government agency documentation. This position will provide editorial services nationally as part of our Visualization and Data Intelligence practice, a growing national business line focused on advancing and enhancing the quality of WSP client deliverables. In this role, you will use your expertise in grammar, writing, and field-specific language conventions to help create project deliverables that are clear, concise, logically laid out, and error-free. Our successful candidate will be able to nimbly support a large variety of technical deliverables, from one-page memos to 900+ page environmental impact statements, working with a variety of technical staff in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.Our successful candidate must be a detailed-oriented self-starter with excellent technical editing skills and have a proven track record of using editorial review to create publication-quality documents. The successful candidate will not only have the knowledge and experience to edit documents, but also will be able to consult authors in achieving their delivery goals. The successful candidate will be expected to exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.Your ImpactProvide editorial support to project teams for a large variety of technical deliverables, from one-page memos to 900+ page environmental impact statements.Ensure that outgoing documents have correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, consistent project terminology, correctly cited references, and clear, concise language.Work with a variety of technical staff and project teams to determine the best approach for specific projects and schedules.Adhere to project schedules and budgets and meet tight deadlines.Who You AreRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree in related field (English, journalism, communications, linguistics).7 - 10 years’ experience editing in the fields of environmental permitting, transportation research, or government agency documentation (finalists will be asked to provide samples of their editing work).Ability to read/understand highly technical documents in the English language.Ability to provide all levels of editing, from proofreading, to copyediting, to line editing, to developmental editing; ability to adapt level of editing to fit the needs of a document and/or the limitations of time and budget.Understanding of the differences between technical writing and marketing/communications writing.Proven experience working successfully in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.Proven experience successfully juggling multiple projects simultaneously.Highly proficient at self-managing time and able to be nimble in the face of shifting project schedules.Proficient in MS Office software; intermediate to advanced skills in MS Word.Knowledgeable in Chicago Manual of Style and other industry-recognized guidelines.Ability to communicate effectively and congenially with project teams in a wide variety of fields.Exceptional attention to detail.Ability to effectively interact with project managers, task leaders, and senior management.Preferred QualificationsExperience editing environmental documents under NEPA, CEQA, CERCLA, or other environmental regulation (e.g., EISs, feasibility studies, biological survey reports, etc.).Experience editing transportation research documents sponsored by entities such as TCRP, NCHRP, FHWA, or state/local transit organizations.Advanced degree in any field.Advanced MS Word skills, especially in the use of styles/templates.Proficiency in MS Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat.Experience working in SharePoint or another shared document platform.WSP Benefits:WSP provides a comprehensive suite of benefits focused on providing health and financial stability throughout the employee’s career. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.Expected Salary (Colorado only): $84,330 - $103,070WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this position within the state of Colorado, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
