The Office of Public Affairs and Communications is responsible for providing strategic communications support for UC Santa Barbara, working with both internal and external audiences. OPAC tells the exciting and important story of UCSB to the general public and our campus community. By working with local, regional, national and international print and electronic news media, the office strives to generate media coverage of the extraordinary development of UCSB as a leading research institution and of the people, programs, events and activities that distinguish the campus. The Office of Public Affairs & Communications ('OPAC') at UC Santa Barbara is seeking a passionate and experienced Social Media Manager to help tell the university's story and build engagement in digital channels. This individual should have strong writing and editing skills, a knack for creativity, and demonstrated experience working with social and emerging media. Primary responsibilities of the role include:Development and ongoing optimization of a social media marketing strategy and distribution plan.Creation, curation, and distribution of content through central UC Santa Barbara social media profiles.Acting as the on-brand voice of UC Santa Barbara through daily management, execution and moderation of the university's central social media profiles.Generating and sharing actionable insights that will drive greater engagement with audience segments across various channels.The ideal candidate will have experience in social media and website analytics, possess an expert command of trends and best practices in social media, and have a strong track record of leading creative campaigns and building social communities. In all duties, acts with a high degree of initiative, motivation, flexibility and self-direction and an appreciation and understanding of higher education and academic values. Reports to the Chief Marketing Officer.Required Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, journalism or related field4-6 years Directing and managing social media channels with a strong understanding of each major social media platform as well as publishing tools such as Hootsuite or Sprout Social.4-6 years Equivalent experience creating and optimizing content.Advanced copywriting, editing, and content-creation skills, with the ability to adapt style, tone, and voice to varied content types and audiences, whole staying on-brand and on-message.Proficiency with social media and web analytics, along with a demonstrated ability to translate data into actionable insight and learningStrong understanding of production processes related to content formats such as video, graphics, podcasts, and blogs.Basic understanding of SEO principles.Basic knowledge of HTML and content management systems such as Drupal.Demonstrated ability to use data, insight, and intuition to make informed decisions.Familiarity with executing paid social media advertising.Familiarity with design, photo-editing, and multimedia tools such as those in the Adobe Creative Suite.Fluent in use of Google Workspace, MS Office Suite, and web-based project management tools.Special Conditions of Employment:Satisfactory criminal history background checkMay be called upon to occasionally work evenings and weekends at various OPAC, Institutional Advancement or campus-wide events, or to cover live news events.UCSB is a Tobacco-Free environmentJob Functions and Percentages of Time:30% Content Strategy & Development:

Develop strategies aimed at broadening reach and maximizing visibility of university content and messages in social channels. Develop platform-specific social media plans to drive maximum engagement. Create and curate content that delivers on agreed-upon strategies. Partner with creative team to produce original content that meet the interests and needs of our social media followers. Content will include but is not limited to news stories, photos, videos, podcasts, graphics, blogs, and user-generated media. Ensure all content effectively builds on the university's identity, and is consistent in terms of style, quality, tone of voice. Content should also be optimized for search, accessibility, and user experience across all channels and devices.40% Audience Engagement:

Manage content calendar; draft copy with particular attention to grammar, personality, tone, and voice. Publish content in key social media platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, Twitter/X, LinkedIn, and Facebook among others. Boost engagement through use of timely, relevant, and insight-driven content, as well as two-way dialogue. Identify and pursue opportunities to drive audience/follower growth. Respond to and/or route inquiries received through social media channels in a timely manner. Identify and pursue new opportunities for the university to drive engagement in social and/or emerging media.20% Analysis:

Track content effectiveness through native social media reporting platforms, Google Analytics, Hootsuite, and other analytics tools. Produce dashboards/reports and optimization plans accordingly. Leverage social media as a listening and learning platform for university brand mentions and associations; disseminate insight and findings to leadership. Maintain and evolve content and social media guidelines and best practices; disseminate university-wide.10% Collaboration:

Conduct content workshops and speak and present to campus audiences on content strategy and social media management. Work closely with cross-functional teams and individuals at various levels across campus to achieve social media goals. Manage team of students in planning, producing, and publishing content for social media channels. Identify new tools and technologies to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and/or collaboration as it relates to content marketing and/or social media management. May be called upon to occasionally work evenings and weekends at various OPAC, Institutional Advancement or campus-wide events, or to cover live news events. Perform other duties as assigned in support of campus goals as part of a strategic campaign to raise media and public awareness of the campus and enhance the reputation of the university.UC Vaccination Programs Policy:
