The Director provides strategic leadership for all functions of library services and operations in collaboration with other academic units and in support of the mission of the university. The Director manages, develops, and/or directs programs and services that support and facilitate student learning and scholarly endeavors. This position serves as a learning support advocate and resource for students, faculty, and staff by directing a full-service library with state-of-the-art services and resources focused on exceptional patron service and responsiveness to patron needs.PRIMARY DUTY:

Supervise, coordinate, and/or direct all aspects of Northwest’s Library Services unit, designed to build upon the innovative approaches to student learning, academic programming, and faculty teaching and research demonstrated by Northwest’s constituents. Works with library leaders and staff to set the mission, goals, and objectives of the Library and its services. Responsible for planning, directing, and overseeing the B.D. Owens Library facility operations and space utilization.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Directs the B.D. Owens Library, developing policies, programs, processes, & personnel necessary to advance the goals and action agendas of the library and strategic initiatives of the University.Manages the design, implementation, & evaluation of campus-wide library programs and services for all students, faculty, and staff.Collaborates with University departments, faculty, and staff on library services issues.Oversees library budgets.Supervises and develops the library staff, including team leaders in access services, collection development, and research services and the staff within those units.Provides guidance to and supervision of research librarians engaging in instruction.Supervises the University Archives and related university collections and the staff archivist.Oversees scheduling, space allocation, maintenance, emergency response, and access in the B.D. Owens Library facility in support of the strategic goals of the institution. Provides leadership for planning for future development, refurbishment, or re-organization of the B.D. Owens Library design, equipment, function, and utilization of space including learning spaces and collection organization.Serves on University and consortial committees, working groups, task forces, & teams.Supervises all library staff and numerous student employees.Performs other duties as assigned.REQUIREMENTS:Education: An American Library Association accredited Master’s degree in library and information science or library science; MLS or equivalent that is considered terminal for college and research libraries.Experience: At least five years of experience as a librarian in higher education settings, including a record of increasing responsibility in library management positions.Skills: Strong human relations, verbal and written communication skills; strong organizational and analytical skills; ability to manage projects and design/implement/evaluate programs; a firm commitment to continuous improvement; knowledge of library services and software; and a clear, practical understanding of organizational dynamics and teamwork.WORKING CONDITIONS:

This position will work in a typical office environment with some evening and weekend hours required. May be called in to address emergency needs in the Library.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
