This is a two-year, 20 hours per week appointment with the option of a hybrid work schedule. The Principal Music Cataloging Librarian is a Faculty Fellow position reporting to the Director of the Resource Description Services (RDS) Team. The Principal Music Cataloging Librarian serves as the Libraries’ expert in cataloging music resources, directing the development, evaluation, and documentation of policies, procedures, and workflows related to music cataloging in collaboration with RDS members and other library units. They perform cataloging for music resources in a variety of formats according to established national and local guidelines and standards and serve as the liaison between RDS and other library units to resolve music continuing resources cataloging problems or questions. They coordinate with Music Library personnel to determine cataloging priorities for both new acquisitions and backlogged material. They participate in the BIBCO, NACO, and SACO programs of the Program for Cooperative Cataloging (PCC) and may provide music cataloging training and support to other Libraries cataloging staff as needed.

Responsibilities

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Performs cataloging for high priority music resources in a variety of formats according to established national and local guidelines and standards;

Serves as the Libraries’ expert in cataloging music resources, directing the development, evaluation, and documentation of policies, procedures, and workflows related to music cataloging in collaboration with RDS members and other library units. Coordinates with Music Library personnel to determine cataloging priorities for both new acquisitions and backlogged material. Serves as the liaison between RDS and other library units to resolve music continuing resources cataloging problems or questions;

Provides music cataloging training and support to other Libraries cataloging staff as needed.

What We Can Offer

The successful candidate will be appointed as a half-time (12 month) faculty fellow with a salary of $41,500.

What We Require

Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution;

Seven or more years of professional music cataloging experience in a variety of formats;

Five or more years of experience in a leadership role within an academic music library;

Experience creating NACO authority records, especially name and name/preferred title authority records;

Demonstrated knowledge of trends and best practices in both traditional and linked data resource description;

Demonstrated working knowledge of cataloging rules, standards, and tools such as MARC, RDA, and a variety of controlled vocabularies;

Experience cataloging in OCLC and an Integrated Library System (ILS) cataloging module.

What You Will Need

Demonstrated initiative in investigating new ideas and implementing change;

Demonstrated ability to train others to catalog or other instruction experience.
