Rate of Pay: $14.00/hour

Characteristics of the Job

Under close supervision, performs elementary and repetitive tasks limited to shelving, retrieving and simple departmental processing. Work is performed according to the established procedures specified in the page manual and in training. Evening and weekend shifts are necessary for this position.

Examples of Duties

Empty book returns.Sort and shelve materials in accordance with established classification systems.Organize, straighten and shift bookshelves.Check shelves for missing library materials.Thoroughly inspect returned materials for damage, completeness or other issues.Assist with closing procedures when scheduled for an evening or Saturday shift.Other duties may be assigned.

Training and Experience

Some high school education; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of numerical and alphabetical sequencing as related to library filing.

Ability to read and write the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance; learn and perform simply repetitive tasks; follow written and oral instructions; establish and maintain effective and harmonious working relationships with other employees, officials and the general public.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, sit, talk, hear, perform considerable repetitive motion involving the use of fingers, hands and limbs, stoop, bend, lift books and other library materials and push a library cart up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
