General Information:

The Office of Admissions seeks a creative and talented student graphic design student assistant to join our team for the 2024-25 academic year.

The graphic design student assistant will produce multiple print and digital projects that will be utilized within the Office of Admissions and with prospective students. Projects include, but are not limited to: large event printed programs; digital signage slides, one off print handouts for events; presentation graphics and more. This is an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience and build your professional portfolio.

HoursApproximately 10-12 hours per week. Some evenings and weekends may be required to cover events.

*This employment opportunity may be compatible with the internship expectations of the SMAD Program.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Conceptualize, plan, and execute projects as designated by the Assistant Director for Major Events• Collaborate with the Assistant Director for Major Events to design graphics for a range of materials, including event programs, flyers, posters, internal signage, digital signage, and promotional materials.• Develop creative concepts and translate them into visually appealing designs that effectively communicate key messages and engage the target audience.• Ensure all designs adhere to the branding guidelines of James Madison University (JMU) to maintain brand consistency.• Assist in the creation and maintenance of design templates for different platforms to streamline the design process.• Adapt designs for various formats and media, ensuring optimal visual impact across different channels.• Stay updated on design trends, techniques, and software to continually enhance design skills.• Collaborate with team members to review and provide feedback on design projects, ensuring high-quality and cohesive visual assets and meeting deadlines.• Utilize a project management system to ensure efficient workflow.

Qualifications:

• Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.)• Strong understanding of design principles, typography, and layout• Creativity and originality in design approach, with a keen eye for detail and aesthetics• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting, adapting to different project requirements and feedback• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively convey ideas and concepts visually and verbally• Strong organizational and time management skills, capable of managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines consistently

Conditions of Employment:

Students must be degree-seeking students, enrolled on at least a half-time basis (6 credits for undergraduate and 5 credits for graduate).

Students must have a 2.0 or better cumulative GPA.
