The UNT Dallas Library supports the mission of the University of North Texas at Dallas (UNT Dallas) by providing quality library resources and services that strengthen student competencies in critical thinking and develop information literacy skills that inspire lifelong learning.

Position Overview

The University of North Texas at Dallas invites applications for the position of Library Technology Specialist. The Library Technology Specialist is responsible for managing bibliographic records in the integrated library system (ILS), and coordinating functions related to the ILS between the UNT Dallas Main Library and the UNT Dallas College of Law Library. This position requires face-to-face and online reference duties with a patron service perspective, some evening and weekend hours, and participation in library teams and campus committees as assigned. The Library Technology Specialist's primary responsibilities will include maintaining a working relationship with information vendors, ensuring access to electronic resources, and responding to technology issues. Instruction responsibilities include participation in student-centered, outcome-based information literacy instruction on an as needed basis.

Responsibilities:

Identifies, locates, retrieves and delivers electronic and physical resources to customers, and tracks the status of ILL requests using interlibrary loan software.

Provides extensive written (email), telephone, and in-person customer service.

Maintains accurate holdings records of information resources in local catalog, and various library automation vendor resources; maintains working knowledge of copyright law as it pertains to libraries and follows terms of use documentation to ensure legal and ethical use of library resources.

Proactively monitors access to electronic resources and troubleshoots access issues; collaborates with the other Library staff to support acquisitions and vendor matters, oversees circulation related functions in the inter-library loan system, the library catalog content, and digital repository metadata.

Maintains accurate records of purchase orders and resource activation, cancellation, cost, usage and licensing data as needed.

Collates and analyzes usage data and statistical reports reflecting performance and usage, and creates cost per use reports for return on investment evaluation of electronic resources.

Maintains current awareness of developments in interlibrary loan and cataloging systems and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or three (3) years of experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Recent experience cataloging a variety of bibliographic and physical formats in an integrated library system.

Knowledge of electronic databases and an integrated library system.

Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Experience working with Library automation systems, Library of Congress Classification systems, RDA standards, MARC format, and standard cataloging practices.

Experience with website maintenance.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with OCLC bibliographic record utility.

M.L.S. / M.L.I.S. from an American Library Association accredited institution.

Experience providing reference service and library instruction.

Website management.

Job Duties:

Performs standard updates and routine procedures necessary for the operation of a variety of modules in the Koha integrated library system; troubleshoots system processes, assists with the design and development of system usage reports; and provides direct support to projects that use and interact with elements of the integrated library system.

Supports the integration of new technology and methodologies for library services, applications and systems; participates in the testing and evaluation of emerging technology for usability and effective discovery and delivery of library information services.

Maintains and updates web-based content, including the library web pages and web graphics in support of a full range of library information discovery tools and services.

Responds to and resolves user access problems with thorough troubleshooting measures for both locally and remotely hosted databases and e-resources available through the library.

Trains student and short term, non-continuing UNTD Library employees in the use of the Library catalog and ILL system.

Assists new library staff with the required onboarding forms to gain access to the library drive and key access to library office areas.

Responds to online interlibrary loan requests using TIPASA interlibrary loan software. Ability to research and apply federal laws regulating copyright and interlibrary loans as necessary.

40 HRS/WK weekends and evenings required.
