JOB SUMMARY:

The Assistant Marketing Director will advance the mission and goals of the University by developing comprehensive communication and media strategies encompassing local, national, and international media, and may serve as a spokesperson for the President and the University. The position provides direction and oversight for the University’s internal and external communication efforts, including functioning as the institution’s Communication Officer.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Plans, evaluates and executes University and foundation initiatives.

Supports and manages strategic communication plans for the University.

Works closely with the Director of Marketing, Leadership Cabinet, and others on sensitive subject matters.

Preserve and protect the reputation of the University and the well-being of students, faculty, and staff.

Supports the Director of Marketing in Crisis Communications.

Coordinates with internal and external communications and media relations.

Responds to media inquiries and shares information proactively with internal stakeholders.

Manages and tracks media reports on the University and coordinates media access to campus.

Participates in University and system organizational activities.

Builds and maintains strong community relationships with elected officials, agencies, organizations, institutions, the media, and community groups.

Communicates, as needed, with all units within the University and the community at large.

Develops and maintains an information network with colleagues in higher education.

Complies with University policies and procedures and ensures compliance among staff.

Ensures institutional branding initiatives enhance the image and recognition of the University.

Ensures press releases and supporting materials are produced and distributed on a timely basis.

Knowledge of digital communications.

Excellent writing and editing skills.

Ability to speak with confidence.

Poise and discretion in various settings.

Skilled in writing for social media.

Working knowledge of digital photography and videography.

High levels of integrity, accuracy, diplomacy, and communication skills.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

This position does have supervisory responsibility.

OTHER DUTIES:

Other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree (related field) and five years of related experience, or equivalent.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment.

Involves sometimes working outside standard business hours.

Involves travel off-site to cover events.

Position is physically comfortable; individual has discretion about sitting (80%), walking (10%), standing (10%).

Work environment involves minimal exposure to physical risks.

Must be able to move up to 45lbs.
