Position Overview:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Assignment Editor to join our news team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing daily news coverage while maintaining close communication with reporters, producers, and news management.

Key Responsibilities:

• Monitor a variety of news sources (wires, scanners, social media, etc.) to identify breaking news and developing stories.
• Assign reporters and photographers to cover stories in a timely and efficient manner.
• Work closely with producers to ensure all relevant content is gathered and delivered for newscasts and digital platforms.
• Coordinate live shots, crew logistics, and news gathering operations during breaking news.
• Collaborate with news management on long-term planning and enterprise stories.
• Maintain an organized planning calendar for upcoming events and stories.
• Monitor and follow up on stories in progress to ensure accurate and complete coverage.
• Serve as a point of contact for news tips, public relations inquiries, and viewer feedback.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or a related field preferred.
• 2+ years of experience in a newsroom, preferably in a similar role.
• Strong knowledge of current events, local news, and the Lehigh Valley region.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and multitasking skills.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage time-sensitive deadlines.
• Familiarity with newsroom management software and tools is a plus.
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as news dictates.
