Do you have a passion for communicating environmental science to the public? The University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (UMCES), a world-renowned environmental research and graduate education institution, is currently seeking a dynamic, self-motivated individual with experience and skills to shape and execute a comprehensive communications and marketing strategy for the institution and advance key priorities of the President and the Advancement Office to convey the impact of UMCES’ research, educational programs, and mission to internal and external audiences.

The ideal candidate will welcome the opportunity to build a communications enterprise at a time of great change and excitement at the university. UMCES is particularly interested in candidates with experience in one or more of the following: science/environmental communications, digital marketing, brand strategy, and/or higher education communications or marketing. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong writing and leadership skills and the ability to translate complex scientific topics into engaging messages.

The position reports to the Vice President for Advancement, supervises a communications team, and serves as the primary point of contact for all central communication initiatives related to messaging and communications, marketing, reputation management, and crisis communications.

UMCES has multiple locations across Maryland, located in Frostburg, Solomons, Baltimore, Cambridge, College Park, and Annapolis. The position is open to a hybrid telework plan designed to balance the needs of the employee with the need for in-person collaboration at UMCES locations. There is an expectation to travel to all locations within MD as needed.

This is a full-time contractual position offering subsidized healthcare and paid annual, sick and holiday leave. A retirement stipend is also available to be used towards a University sponsored supplemental retirement plan.
