So right off the bat I want to make it clear that this is an ad for an in-house Event Marketing Manager for Banger's Sausage House & Beer Garden, a restaurant/bar/event venue in Austin, Texas. But, for someone, this will no doubt be the opportunity of a lifetime, and that someone might just be you.

Primary Objective:

The primary problem you are trying to solve is; What is the next event at Banger's and how do I ensure it's well attended?

So, it's probably a good idea for us to define what an event is at Banger's:

Large (2,000 people throughout the day), annual in-house events like Oktoberfest, Ren Fest, our Anniversary Party or possibly a city wide Sausagefest competition that we hold at the restaurant

Monthly events like beer dinners, charitable activations, meat raffles or hosting a professional arm wrestling competition

Weekly events like menu releases, beer specials, happy hours maybe even a weekly wiener dog race in the beer garden

Offsite events like Austin Food & Wine Festival, Hot Luck Festival or when we fly to New York to accept our James Beard Award

Roles and Responsibilities:

Event Promotion: So, your primary objective is to make almost everything we do at Banger s feel like an event. Meaning it s something worth talking about and worth coming to whether it s a food special or an actual large party. From there we need you to figure out how to get the word out. This includes social media posts, press releases, posting flyers around town, dropping gift baskets to local concierges, etc.

Content Creation: The day of the event you d be expected to be there to capture content (photo/video w/ an iPhone & our in-house camera) for current and future promotion. This may mean a flexible schedule certain weeks so you can be at the event without working more than 5 days (work life balance is written into our core values).

Third Party Vendor Manager - This is a big job for one person to tackle and we really want you to focus on the things you are great at. So there are times you'll need to hire and manage third party folks for certain jobs that you either aren't great at or don t have time for. This can include graphic designers, web designers, photographers and more.

Qualifications & Skills:

Minimum 3 years of Event Production/Event Marketing/ experience in a similar industry and capacity.

Great people skills

Proficient in digital marketing tools and all platforms we are currently on (Instagram, Facebook, Adobe Creative Suite, ect.)

Strong analytical and project management skills

Excellent written and verbal communication abilities

Good at taking pictures & editing in Photoshop or an equivalent software

Graphic design skills are a plus but in no way a deal killer (see third party management)

Since so much lives online these days you also need to just be generally tech savvy and proficient

Organized & detail-oriented with a focus on producing quality work

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously

So, now that I've told you about the job, allow me to introduce myself and the organization. My name is Ben Siegel and I'm the owner of Banger s Sausage House & Beer Garden. As our name implies, Banger's is a sausage house and beer garden located on Rainey Street in Downtown Austin, Texas. We opened our doors in 2012, and we finished a large expansion on the lot adjacent to us at the end of 2018. We are now home to the largest draft beer system in the state of Texas with 202 individual lines, a beer cellar for aging beers, a pickling facility, a meat curing facility, a smokehouse, and a small-scale meat processing facility for whole animal butchery and fresh sausage production. The whole compound doubles as a live music and private event venue with a standing room occupancy of 1,800 people.

For years I headed up our marketing efforts with a rotating group of misfits and mischief makers (aka the people that worked in the restaurant). None of us were marketing professionals but we did our best and had a good time.

Well, it's time for this stagnant phase of our marketing journey to end and for the next chapter to begin. We are ready to pass the reins off to a marketing pro that can build off of the foundation we ve already built to allow our restaurant and our brand to grow to that next level. The other big shift here is having our marketing focus shift from content creation to event promotion. This is a significant shift that I hope is captured in this ad.
