The office of the Deputy Speaker of the New York City Council is seeking a Director of Media and Communications to serve as the connector to our constituents via newsletters, social media outlets and written communications.

Learn more about the general tasks related to this opportunity below, as well as required skills.SALARY RANGE:$70,000 to $70,000KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Create and curate media and communications products, including photography, video, flyers/posters and social media content.Draft statements, quotes and official correspondence for review.Manage our social media pages and website.Create bi-weekly and monthly newsletters.Conduct press outreach and provide timely responses to press inquiries.Demonstrate flexibility in addressing emerging and or unanticipated challenges, events or opportunities.Ability to staff Council Member to in-person events to capture photos and videos.Prepare Council Member for interviews and speaking engagements.Keep a pulse on district related issues and create a structure to communicate important trends to the Council Member.QUALIFICATIONS:Exceptional oral and written communication skills.Highly organized and careful attention to detail.An interest in local government, politics, and city issues.Experience building and maintaining relationships with diverse communities.Ability to multitask and manage projects from inception to conclusion.Good judgment and political sensitivity.Ability to set and meet internal and external deadlines, work in a fast-paced government office, and work both independently and within a team.ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:New York City residency required within 90 days of appointment.For eligible employees, health, dental and vision insurance coverage are offered upon hire.
