You’re all about keeping up with the news around our big topic areas—namely climate and human health—and connecting the big picture back to SOSV to find opportunities to make our experience and voice heard. You love working with founders building tech that matters. You are a fast learner, undaunted by the challenging scientific and technical focuses of SOSV's deep tech companies. (Don't worry; we all spend a lot of time online educating ourselves.) And you can help distill these complex topics into fascinating stories that resonate with journalists, brands, and consumers alike.5+ years experience working in communications at an agency or VC / tech firmWell-versed in building relationships with climate, health, tech, and finance journalistsExcellent at finding and creating opportunities for media outreach, mapping back to priority themes and sectors for the firm and its portfolioAble to educate key stakeholders like portfolio company founders on media and comms best practicesConfident as a writer, whether that's a pitch, a post for the SOSV website, a press release, or marketing copy for an eventAdept at creating social media content (namely, LinkedIn), and able to tailor content to suit various voices/audiencesTireless communicator, able to effectively coordinate messaging with a globally distributed set of stakeholdersHighly organized and able to keep track of a variety of projects and portfolio companies (we have several hundred!) at any given timeData-driven and adept at spotting trends and patterns to inform our go-forward strategy (We have a proprietary media scoring system that we run monthly and an annual brand survey to help analyze how we’re doing in the press relative to our business/comms priorities.)WHAT YOU’LL DOThe Director of Communication will work on projects related to SOSV itself, including the firm’s general partners and our HAX and IndieBio programs, as well as the top companies in SOSV's extensive portfolio. The former work will involve press interviews and event appearances for the general partners, while the latter will include in-depth workwith founders in our portfolio to hone their pitches (typically funding news) to media like TechCrunch, Bloomberg, and others. The director will also help produce press releases as well as posts for the SOSV website.You’ll also work closely with SOSV senior operating partner Ned Desmond and SOSV partner Ben Joffe on major productions such as the Human Health 100 and Climate Tech 100 (lists of our top companies in those categories), as well as the SOSV Climate Tech summit, a world class event attended by thousands in October each year.The role reports to Ned Desmond, Senior Operating Partner at SOSV.
