Job Purpose:

This position serves as support to the Director of Strategic Communication and assists with oversight of all department operations. The Assistant Director will ensure timely and effective execution of the department’s strategies, manage projects, and assist with oversight of daily operations. This position reviews the marketing strategy for the whole university as well as the three admissions departments (traditional undergraduate, online undergraduate, and graduate programs) and organizes and manages plans, coordinates with internal and external resources, and follows up on effectiveness with reports and makes suggestions on adjustments. This position also oversees the vendors and contractors for the Office of Strategic Communications, managing contracts, ensuring effectiveness, and developing relationships. This position also oversees student worker staff as well as social media strategy and calendars.

An important part of the position is supporting the mission of the University and advancing the academic excellence and spiritual vitality of our University and students. Each employee plays an important role in the development of the Christian faith in our students.

Essential Functions:

Ensure marketing and communications campaigns are completed and executed well.

Create timely reports of campaigns and measure their effectiveness.

Coordinate the use of and production by outside contractors including designers, photographers, writers, and other skilled service providers.

Have excellent organizational skills.

Manage internal communication project requests and work with requestors and staff/contractors to accomplish projects.

Have reasonable journalistic skills (writing/editing – AP Style) and know marketing principles.

Have a working knowledge of social media (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn) to be able to oversee content calendar, execute social media posts when needed, and be able to run and keep up with reports and statistics on growth, etc.

Oversee student worker and GA team’s work priorities and ensure projects are completed.

Serve as quality control manager to ensure that details are attended to, and all work is correct.

Work well within a team and individually.

Produce schedules, reports and other documents monthly (and more often if needed) for the VP and other staff.

Promote and magnify Strategic Communication’s professional image through the efficient use of time, materials and people.

Assist Director with budget management for the department.

Other duties as assigned.

Physical requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

This position requires the ability to occasionally lift items, up to 25 pounds.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position, and normal work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This position requires additional hours and weekend work.

Travel:

Minimal travel is expected for this position.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in communication, marketing, or related field

2+ years’ experience with marketing, sales, or advertising

Strong attention to detail and organized

Hands-on experience developing campaigns and promotions

Proven success in a fast-paced environment, working with a team and individually

Exceptional oral and written communication skill, and presentation ability

Familiarity with Christian Higher Education

A committed and dynamic Christian faith along with the ability to support the University’s theological position, lifestyle standards and mission
