Sr Media Systems Engineer

General Summary
The Sr Media Systems Engineer is responsible for the planning, development, hands-on installation, and maintenance of LAIKA's media engineering technology and services. This position is responsible for the technology and services in all editorial suites and machine rooms, screening rooms, dailies playback systems, conference room AV setups, story development, and post-production delivery systems.

Job Functions
  • Plan, install, and support all editorial hardware/software systems, including Avid Media Composer, Avid Pro Tools, and Avid Nexis Enterprise.
  • Develop and maintain the production color management system, including the development of calibration and quality control standards for screening rooms and review and approval stations in departments.
  • Maintain high-resolution playback servers, projection systems, cabling and video routing, audio recording, and mixing gear.
  • Maintain current knowledge relevant to 3rd party systems and best practices in the media engineering field.
  • Assist the Lead Engineer in defining technical standards/workflows and work independently on major installations and updates.
  • Collaborate with software developers to deliver in-house software solutions for the groups supported by media engineering technology and services.
  • Provide training and support as needed to users of media engineering systems.
  • Design, equip, and maintain conference room and review room AV systems

Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in applied media or engineering experience in a professional setting, including 3+ years of audio-video integration and design experience.
  • 5+ years of feature film and or commercial post-production experience as an editor, engineer, or media technician.
  • Avid Media Composer and Avid NEXIS Support ACSR certifications preferred.
  • Extensive engineering experience handling large-scale installation and support of professional video post-production equipment, technologies, and workflows, including Avid/Pro Tools, Digital Cinema, critical audio listening environments and acoustics, critical viewing environments, etc.
  • Advanced experience working with and supporting a variety of video conference technologies.
  • Knowledge of color theory and color calibration hardware systems, and modern streaming software and hardware technologies.
  • Familiarity with Linux, Mac, and Windows systems administration, and network architecture & security concepts, including accelerated file transfer and cloud-based review platforms (e.g., Aspera, Signiant, Frame.io, LucidLink).
  • Strong understanding of and experience with audio and video over IP protocols (e.g., Dante, NDI, SMPTE 2110).
  • Proven experience prioritizing and managing technical projects through their completion.
  • Capable of working both independently and collaboratively within and across teams and leveraging effective communication in organizing complex efforts.
