Senior Technical Writer

The Big Picture

The Senior Technical Writer is fully trained and capable of carrying out complex technical writing activities within area(s) of training and specialization. Typical tasks include editing and creation of SOPs, templates, labeling, reports and quality documentation according to the Baylis Medical Technologies Quality Management System and other established best practice templates. The Senior Technical Writer is expected to collaborate with stakeholders within the company and drive the full scope of technical writing deliverables without regular technical review.

  • Conduct all documentation activities in compliance with Baylis Medical Technologies quality practices and procedures.
  • Comply with the Health & Safety policies of the company and inform Management of unsafe working conditions.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of company product lines, document structure and customer needs (internal and external).
  • Interpret and support compliance to industry-specific technical standards.
  • Develop expertise in one or more technical writing processes, business process, or documentation type.
  • Determines scope of technical writing within projects and is responsible for conducting independent work planning within that scope to support project timelines.
  • Negotiates scope of work with other departments and contributes to product level project planning.
  • In collaboration with SMEs, gather technical information as required and/or independently research available engineering information such as drawings, design reports, equipment, and test specifications.
  • Responsible for timeous drafting and/or editing of technical content in support of product and/or process development projects including document updates, incorporating reviewer inputs and revising existing content (process improvement) as required. Document activities may include but are not limited to the fields of design, process, production, maintenance and regulatory affairs.
  • Work cross-functionally with all business units/SMEs for technical review of documentation.
  • Understand quality change procedures and contribute/draft associated documentation.
  • Route documents through eQMS and track approval process.
  • May provide technical and/or project level leadership to Technical Writers and Staff Technical Writers.
  • Adheres to all company and quality policies and procedures.


Your Unique Expertise

Required Skills:

  • A technical degree and/or technical writing certification with 5+ years' experience OR an equivalent of education and experience.
  • Demonstrate competence as Senior Technical Writer or equivalent.
  • Experience in an ISO13485 environment.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work flexibly and thrive in a fast-changing environment.
  • Willingness to take on new challenges and solve problems with minimal direction.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and as well as to lead independent contributions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with an excellent command of the English language.
  • Ability to reliably meet deadlines and project objectives.
