Duties

While professional experience and qualifications are key for this role, make sure to check you have the preferable soft skills before applying if required.As a Supervisory Health Communications Specialist you will:

Disseminate significant advances in prevention science and key findings/results, including the identification of major risk and protective factors.

Promote federal grants/incentives and development programs providing general health care that integrate care for mental and substance use disorders or provide incentives for organizations that support similar program integration.

Communicate the direction of future research, and existing knowledge base to inform the development of prevention and treatment strategies to prevent the initiation of substance use.

Plan work for accomplishment by subordinate units, set and adjust short-term priorities, and prepare schedules based on consideration of difficulty of requirements and assignments such that the experience, training, and abilities of the staff are effectively used to meet organization and customer needs.

Support expansion efforts for accessing effective, evidence-based treatments for those with substance use disorder.

Requirements

Conditions of Employment

US Citizenship is required.

Males born after December 31, 1959 must be registered or exempt from Selective Service (see http://www.sss.gov).

May be subject to a Background/Security Investigation.

Security clearance level may differ from the position announced when certificates are shared.

One-year probationary period may be required.

This position may be subject to a Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Time in grade (TIG) must be met within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.

Candidates must have demonstrated or shown the potential to develop the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities. A supervisory probationary period may be required. Applicants should describe any previous experience or responsibilities which could be used in relation to the supervisory requirements of this position.

This position may be subject to the OGE Financial Disclosure requirements of the Ethics in Government Act of 1978 (P.L. 95-521).

In accordance with Executive Order 12564 of September 15, 1986, The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is a Drug-Free Federal Workplace. This position may require a Drug Test and be subject to Random Drug Testing.

Qualifications

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement.

Minimum Qualifications:

To qualify at the GS-15 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-14 grade level, which must include the following experience:

providing leadership, guidance, and vision for communication product development and campaigns on public health topics.

Education

Copy of your transcripts or equivalent documentation is required for positions with an education requirement, or if you are qualifying based on education or a combination of education and experience.
