Job Description
Maintaining efficiency and economy in operations management requires flexibility in job assignments. While each employee shall have a primary responsibility for the job in which that employee has been hired or later promoted to, each employee may be expected to perform other jobs from time to time.
SUMMARY:
The Graphic Designer, Creative Services is a critical part of the MTS Design Team and is responsible for maintaining the high standards of design and communication for one of the San Diego County’s most important services and recognizable brands. Under direction of the Creative Design Manager, the graphic designer provides design and production support to Marketing, as well as other departments within MTS. Essential duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
Essential Functions
Responsible for development, design and production of graphic design projects for marketing campaigns and promotions, rider communication materials, public information and internal corporate communications.Print design
projects may include, but are not limited to Marketing collateral, fare media, rider newsletters, advertisements, campaign materials, brochures, promotional products, internal communications, corporate materials and vehicle wraps.Digital design
projects may include signs, advertisements, website assets, social media assets, video assets, PowerPoint presentations and more.Understands the MTS brand guidelines and maintains brand consistency throughout all projects.Coordinates production and distribution of projects; obtains production cost estimates; manages internal Purchase Order process and coordinates delivery and distribution.Duties May Include, But Are Not Limited To, The Following:
Develops, organizes and designs the content of projects including colors, fonts, photographs, layouts and other design elements.Translates strategic direction into high-quality design within an established brand identity.Collaborates, brainstorms, and strategizes with multiple teams on a wide range of materials that may include web pages, digital advertisements, presentations, service collateral, signage, internal communications, newsletters, and marketing materials.Prepares quality print projects based on knowledge of design, typography, paper stocks, reproduction methods, photography and printing processes.Prepares effective digital communications based on knowledge of user experience, a variety of platforms and social media.Reviews work performed by outside vendors for accuracy, quality and visual effectiveness.Marketing outreach event staffing as needed.Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Experience taking a lead role on design elements of marketing campaigns, including creating visual concepts and artwork to communicate messages and promote products or servicesHighly proficient at computer-aided design software including Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and AcrobatWorking knowledge of motion graphic software including Adobe Animate and After EffectsProficient at Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPointExperience shooting photography and video with proficient understanding of still and motion camera equipment.Solid knowledge of design and visual principles for print materials, digital assets and motion graphics.Skill in verifying the accuracy and completeness of forms, charts and reportsAbility to communicate design choices clearly; can articulate and pitch design concepts.Great multi-tasking skills and ability to work under pressure
Knowledge of or ability to learn MTS policies and regulations
Physical Requirements
The successful candidate must be able to fulfill the physical demands of the job such as walking, stooping, sitting, bending, reaching for overhead files and occasional lifting (must be able to lift up to 15 pounds). Work will at times require more than 8 hours per day or an irregular work week to perform the essential duties of the position. Duties will be performed primarily in an office environment and may require occasional on-site outdoor field work at MTS properties and stations. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and perform tasks involving manual dexterity, such as use of a computer.
Experience/Education/Certificates/License(s)
Possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Graphic Design or related field. A minimum of five years of full-time graphic design experience in preparing and producing print and digital projects. Must possess and maintain a valid California Driver’s License.
GENERAL :
Must satisfactorily pass all applicable examinations including, but not limited to, a pre-employment physical, drug screen and background check.
SALARY GRADE:
The anticipated starting pay for this position is between
$61,000 - $69,000 . This range represents the expected starting salaries for new hires, typically within the lower to mid-portion of the overall salary range, which encompasses the full potential earnings for the role. Salary offers are based on factors such as the knowledge, skills, abilities, and relevant experience of the successful candidate, while taking into account internal equity, budget constraints, and other market factors. This position is in salary grade #7, which has a minimum of $60,856 and a maximum of $86,416.
Salary grades are typically adjusted annually to ensure they remain market competitive.
