This position supports the music component of the Parish Vision and Mission Statements, as identified by the Protestant Advisory Council, the Pastoral Council, and authorized by the Joint Base Senior Chaplain (JBSC). The Music Program will conform to the instructions of the Air Force & Navy Chaplain Corps, as determined by the JBSC. The Protestant Music Program for the Protestant Parish and the Catholic Music Program for the Catholic Parish shall encompass the needs of the respective chaplain, congregation, and choirs on JB CHS.

Protestant Service

The contractor shall assist in selecting suitable music for all required worship services, special community programs, and other services performed as part of the Protestant program as needed. The contractor shall work primarily with the Service Chaplain in selecting music from main genres/repertories (contemporary, gospel & traditional).

For the purposes of this contract, the following musical genre definitions apply:

Contemporary:

Christian worship music written within the 21st Century, including modern musical arrangements of classic hymns.

Gospel:

Christian worship music that reflects a celebratory upbeat urban style characterized by dominant vocals and strong harmony.

Traditional:

Christian worship music written in the 17th to 20th Centuries (i.e., hymns).

Experience working with Millennial and younger generations preferred.

Must demonstrate knowledge, understanding, and adherence to the practices of the Protestant Christian faith.

Facility Requirements

The contractor shall read and sign facility usage form, security statement, and key control log. The Chapel Music/Direction services contractor shall ensure that sound system, music stands, microphones, microphone stands, and all other musical equipment is set up prior to each rehearsal and service, set at the appropriate level, and put away or deactivated/turned off after each rehearsal and service.

The Chapel Music/Direction services contractor shall complete and submit facility request forms no later than 3 days prior to reserve sanctuary, choir room for rehearsals and services, or, specific to the Catholic RE Coordinator services contractor, other rooms for meetings, training, or other functions, or at the beginning of each Fiscal year for recurring events. The contractor shall unlock the Chapel prior to rehearsals, services, and/or events, and secure the facility upon completion. The contractor shall ensure that the facility is left clean and orderly upon completion of any usage.

Rehearsals and Worship Services

The contractor shall coordinate, organize, prepare, recruit, and direct musicians, choir members, and musical leadership during rehearsals, worship, and performances in reference to the Protestant and Catholic Service music program. The contractor shall perform at worship services every week on Sunday, as well as lead weekly rehearsals. The contractor shall arrange Protestant Service & Catholic choir schedule to allow special rehearsals and services. All rehearsals and worship services will take place in Joint Base Chapels and are subject to relocation with the JBSC’s approval. The contractor shall be notified at least twenty-four hours in advance of a projected move.

Music Program Review

The contractor shall meet with the Protestant and the Catholic Service Chaplain or designated chaplain/Priest periodically to discuss/review the status of the music program. Service music plans must be submitted to the Protestant and the Catholic Service Chaplain or designated chaplain/Priest a minimum of one month at a time, submitted no later than two weeks prior to the beginning of the month. The contractor shall select and order appropriate music for the liturgical year and special services.
