DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: The Center's Marketing & Communications team functions as a full-service internal and external marketing and communications provider for the largest LGBTQ organization in the world. Scope of work includes media and press relations, supporting crisis and breaking news communications and events, website building, optimization, maintenance, and content creation, program and services collateral, communications, and support, graphic design copy, social media content recommendations, video and photography production, and email marketing. The team also provides overall organization brand support and promotion.

JOB SUMMARY: The Senior Digital Communications Manager plays an integral role in the Marketing & Communications team by managing internal, external, and digital communication efforts, including media and public relations. This position works closely with the Head of Marketing & Communications and other members of Center management to develop communication materials for a broad group of stakeholders including donors, clients, and the community-at-large, and deploys these materials through diverse channels, including digital, print, and other outlets.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Manage all external and digital communication efforts including supporting the Head of Marketing & Communications and other members of Center management with their communication needs.

Develop website content and ensure that the content is fresh and relevant.

Serve as thought partner on story pitches to the press regarding the Center’s programs, activities, events, community sites, and special partnerships and answer and respond to routine calls from reporters.

Support the identification and training of appropriate spokespersons under their direct supervisor.

Monitor public responses to breaking news and support crisis communication activities.

Support the Head of Marketing & Communications by helping prep for their role as the Center’s spokesperson when required.

Write, edit, and proofread communication and related media materials including press releases, media advisories, articles, and online content.

Collaborate closely with editorial team including writing content and performing other communications roles.

Work with other members of Marketing & Communications team to understand analytics to ensure that communication efforts are effective and engaging.

Be highly knowledgeable about all Center activities.

Participate in Communications team meetings and represent the Communications team in the Marketing & Communications management group.

Actively participate in team brainstorming, planning activities, and meetings.

Professionally represent the Center at internal and external community and stakeholder-related meetings, functions, events, and activities.

Other duties as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Knowledge of or experience working with the LGBTQ community and familiarity with issues of particular relevance to LGBTQ people.

A passion for the Center’s work and its mission to make the world a better place for LGBTQ people.

Minimum 5 years of related experience, ideally for a nonprofit organization.

Demonstrated experience optimizing and managing CMS platforms (WordPress).

Understanding of performance optimization including caching, CDNs, and image optimization strategies.

Familiarity with website best practices and tools (load and speed, SEO, UX, etc.)

Thorough understanding of technological tools, with the ability to onboard quickly and efficiently.

Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.

Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus but not required.

Previous digital or online journalism experience preferred.

Demonstrated experience helping support communications campaigns.

Ability to successfully support multiple teams through breaking news processes including press conferences and media responses.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite a plus.

Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with strong attention to detail.

Demonstrated ability and experience working in a collaborative environment with a strong client-centric focus.

A creative and detail-oriented self-starter who can work quickly and independently in a fast-paced campaign environment, managing multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.

Willing and able to work evenings and weekends, when necessary.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, gender identities, gender expression, socio-economic backgrounds, religions, ages, English-speaking abilities, immigration status, and physical abilities in a multicultural environment.
