The Technical Director oversees all technical aspects of interdisciplinary productions, performances, and events within the Dance Department. This includes support for student, faculty, and guest artist initiatives. Additionally, the Technical Director assists faculty artistic directors and serves as a mentor/advisor for undergraduate student creative activities and research, including capstone projects and other student-led performances. Similarly, they contribute to the technical and design execution of graduate student creative projects, such as MFA productions, along with other graduate student-led performances.

They will assist guest artists with the planning and implementation of their performances and any event that contributes to the curricular mission of the department. Collaborating closely with the Dance Events Specialist and other Performing Arts Staff, the Technical Director ensures that the needs of each production, performance, and event are met.This is a hands-on position which requires the Technical Director to leverage their strong background in theatre production to perform tasks such as training students and part-time staff in lighting, audio, video, and other technical theatre areas, and participate in the running of shows. A crucial aspect of the role involves designing and/or implementing multiple technical elements for each event, performance, or production, which may include lighting, sound, and video. This position is exempt and requires in-person work on campus, particularly during evenings and weekends, especially during production periods.Reporting directly to the Production Director for the Performing Arts, the Technical Director collaborates with faculty, lecturers, guest artists, and staff within the Dance department. They also engage with production staff in other departments and various campus constituents to achieve Dance department and Performing Arts Production goals. The Technical Director serves as a liaison with UCR Facilities to support the management, operation, and optimization of departmental spaces. Additionally, they collaborate with production and event staff at UCR ARTS and the University Theatre on Dance Department projects hosted or produced there.This position is designated as a Career Ladder recruitment, which means the hiring department can recruit and fill this role at different levels within the position classification series. However, the expected pay scale for this position is up to $100,000 annually. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position.
